Binh Duong has set a goal of becoming a smart city by 2045, with an urban system with green, smart and sustainable growth, synchronous, modern technical and social infrastructure, good living environment and quality of life, high competition in the socio-economic development of the region.
Part 1: Replicating parks and trees
Over the past years, Binh Duong focused on developing green trees, creating landscapes, improving environmental quality, contributing to building up a green - clean - beautiful, civilized and modern city.
Changing urban landscape
Trees play an important role in social life, absorbing toxic wastes, killing bacteria, reducing noise, contributing to protecting people’s health and protecting the environment. In addition, green trees with natural characteristics, together with other architectural works, create specific cultural nuances, contributing to increasing the beauty of the urban landscape, enriching the cultural and spiritual life of residents.
In a short time, many parks and flower gardens have been invested and put into use in the province. In picture: A glance of An Phu park in Thuan An city
Over the past years, with the attention and direction of provincial Party Committee, People's Committee, the infrastructure facilities of the province were gradually upgraded and expanded. A series of residential areas, new urban areas, roads and welfare works have been formed up, changing the appearance of the province's technical infrastructure, including trees. Many urban main roads and inter-regional ones are synchronously invested in combination with planting or replacing trees. Urban embellishment works are always associated with green tree renovation.
In Thu Dau Mot city, the two sides of main streets, namely April 30, Thich Quang Duc, Huynh Van Nghe, Le Thi Trung, Yersin, Huynh Van Luy, Pham Ngoc Thach, Hung Vuong…are always under the green shades... All kinds of trees planted on each route have created green space, urban beauty while becoming a feature of Thu Dau Mot city.
To invest in urban construction and development in the direction of green and smart growth, improve the quality of living environment and urban landscape, build up a "green - clean, beautiful - safe" city, Thu Dau Mot city has focused on developing urban green space, increasing public space to serve the community. The city has developed the criteria of "green city", "park city", "urban civilized alley", striving to fulfill the local target of having 120 parks and at least 9 wards meeting urban civilization standards in the period of 2021-2025.
Over the past time, the city made the most of public land funds and redundant administrative offices after being rearranged by the province and city to invest in the construction of parks, gardens and green areas combined with the expansion of green space for community activities of the quarters.
Up to now, the city has had 132 parks and gardens, including 115 from the local State budget and 17 from socialization capital. Besides, the land for parks and green trees in Binh Duong urban, service complex is 142.61 hectares. The proportion of urban green land in the city has reached 14.6 square meters per person (the target is 15 square meters per person by 2025). The ratio of public green land has gained 5.7 square meters per person (the target by 2025 will reach 6 square meters per person). In the first half of 2023, the city completed the task of planting new trees, replacing trees on 3 embankment routes and 15 roads in the area with 2,899 trees, costing nearly VND 13 billion; worked with Becamex Corporation to plant additional 600 trees on Binh Duong Boulevard.
Green from urban to industrial parks
However, at present, the population growth rate is getting higher and higher, leading to a high rate of urbanization in the province while the investment in building new parks and trees on a large scale in recent years has still been limited. Parks and streets are mainly concentrated in the central areas of Thu Dau Mot city, Thuan An city, Di An city, Tan Uyen city, Ben Cat town, the administrative centers, main roads in the districts.
Up to now, the total area of parks and flower gardens in 9 districts, towns and cities has reached 459,775 hectares. Trees in the projects of new urban areas, housing areas, resettlement areas, residential areas and apartment buildings when investing in urban technical infrastructure are carried out synchronously by investors. However, there are still a few projects that have not been implemented for investment in terms of green trees yet.
The whole province is now home to 28 industrial parks (IPs) with a total area of 11,138 hectares (excluding Cay Truong IP which has not yet been approved for planning). According to the detailed plans, local adjustment and adjustment planning approved, the total area of green tree land has been preliminarily counted as 1,003 hectares. Of these, the invested green area is about 678 hectares. Some IPs have not reported the status of investment in green trees yet.
The province now has 10 industrial clusters with a total area of 551.7 hectares, including about 16.5 hectares for green tree and about 4.49 hectares for green tree land with isolation function. Along with that, the whole province has 6 national-level relic sites, 10 provincial-level relics that have been invested in trees by provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
In order to effectively implement the development of urban green trees, it is necessary for the province to mobilize resources of the society to participate in investment and maintenance of green parks under the plan. Green tree development will contribute to improving people's living quality, protecting the ecological environment, improving the landscape and responding to climate change, contributing to the local socio-economic development in a sustainable way.
