Update: 11-09-2013 | 00:00:00

Binh Duong is striving to become a city of first class and a centrally-governed city by 2020. During the urbanization process, Binh Duong has promoted the model of “green city-clean industry” towards sustainable development. The point of view has been shared by Le Phu Cuong, Deputy Director of provincial Department of Construction at a recent meeting of the local construction sector…

Architecture of a green city

According to Mr.Cuong, the model of “green city-clean industry” is not only the trend of Vietnam, but also of the world. Binh Duong has also made efforts to realize criteria on green architecture, creating a living environment that is harmonious between human beings and nature.

A glance of TDM city In Binh Duong, there are some typical projects for this, namely the Phu Hoa new urban area, the Becamex plaza, the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park, the Wind and Water Coffee Shop, the ecological villa village…Many other works such as residential estates, trade works, even factories have also been designed with surrounding verdure.

Pavements and canal sides in Binh Duong have been designed by grass covers, instead of concretization. In the coming time, Binh Duong will implement some overall urban projects, comprising of those of Suoi Giua park, verdure system along the banks of Dong Nai River, Saigon River…, contributing to making much green space for Binh Duong city.

Also according to Mr.Cuong, one of important elements to create architecture of a green city is to use environmentally friendly building materials. Binh Duong is changing to using unburnt bricks made from wasted materials. Some building materials such as bamboo shutterings, paste instead of concrete mortar… are being encouraged for use.

City with clean industry

Industry is always associated with urbanization. But, environmental pollution and many other issues will arise from industrial development.

To redress the above issues, Binh Duong has mapped out many action programs on environmental protection in the process of industrialization and modernization. So far, there have been 96% of industrial parks and compounds with concentrated waste treatment systems. Binh Duong has also developed an automatic monitoring system that is capable of monitoring 40% of the amount of industrial waste.

In addition, province-based firms have implemented waste discharge in accordance with the State’s regulations. The local waste collection system has been executed in a synchronous way, in which TDM city’s concentrated waste treatment system has been into experimental operation.

The province’s plan to remove porcelain making facilities from residential areas was realized drastically over the past time. Under the local orientations, Binh Duong will not promote industrial development in the southern region while gradually turning industrial parks herein into services areas, hi-tech centers, creating big added values, minimizing environmental pollution and especially raising the proportion of services in the local GDP structure.

To Mr.Cuong, Binh Duong has continued implementing the national strategy on green growth and striving to become a civilized and modern city with good living environment, ensuring economic growth associated with environmental protection. The way to achieve the goal is to develop the model of “green city and clean industry”.
