Binh Duong proposes to increase generation capacity from solar power and waste power

On July 9, in Hanoi, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha chaired a video conference on promulgating and updating the implementation plan of the National Electricity Development Plan for the period 2021-2030, vision to 2050 (Power Plan VIII). Nguyen Van Danh, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, chaired the video conference in Binh Duong province.

Reporting at the conference, the Ministry of Industry and Trade said that according to Power Plan VIII, the concentrated solar power source has an increased capacity of 1,500 MW by 2030. However, the concentrated solar power projects mentioned in Inspection Conclusion No. 1027 have not been allowed to be implemented by the competent authorities; thus ensuring that they meet the development requirements of concentrated solar power projects according to Decree No. 80/2024/ND-CP of the Government regulating the direct electricity trading mechanism between renewable energy generators and large electricity customers, it has not yet been implemented.

Binh Duong province proposed that the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Government consider increasing solar power capacity by 2030 to 3,177 MW, and by 2050 the capacity will increase to 5,359 MW; Increase the scale of electricity production capacity from waste to 80 MW by 2030.

Speaking at the conference's conclusion, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha emphasized that it is necessary to review and supplement local electricity generation sources to assist socio-economic development. However, the projects and generation sources that localities request to supplement must be legally guaranteed, and do not include projects that are being inspected or investigated. The Deputy Prime Minister also noted that additional adjustments to projects and local power generation sources must ensure technical safety and safety for the national power transmission system. In addition, it is necessary to review 9 groups of necessary criteria to include in Power Planning VIII, ensuring system safety and transmission technology. For projects that need to be fixed soon as pointed out by the Government Inspectorate, only when they are handled and overcome can they be added to Power Planning VIII.
