Binh Duong Province on drug prevention day

June 24, national drug prevention department of Ministry of Public Security coordinated with Central Committee of Vietnamese Farmer Association and Ninh Binh Binh Provincial People’s Committee to hold a meeting of International Day and National Day for drug prevention.Addressing the meeting Senior General Dang Van Hieu, permanent standing Deputy Minister of Public Security affirmed the achievements made and called upon sectors, agencies, and authorities to continue communication and education of drug prevention. Accordingly, the task forces of drug and crime prevention are required to propose measures against drug trafficking into Vietnam. He also called upon international community to offer more supports to prevention drug and crimes in Vietnam including financial and technical measures.On behalf of United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes (UNODC), Mrs. Zhuldyz Akisheva, Country Manager of Vietnam, highly appreciated the planning and policies against drug and crimes as well as law enforcement to prevent and treat addictives on basis of human rights.On the same day in Binh Duong Province, the Directive Board No. 138 held a meeting with representatives from sectors, agencies, unions, and 1,000 youths.as reported, over 3,000 drug addicts are being treated in Binh Duong Province. In the first 6 months of the year, police forces have discovered 161 cases of drug crimes, leading to arrest of 274 criminals with over 184 kg of heroine, 637g of methamphetamine, over 15kg of cocaine, and over 2,000 additive pills.at the meeting, Deputy Chairman of Provincial People’s Committee called upon sectors, agencies, and unions to promote responsibilities in fighting drugs and crimes.According to Binh Duong Newspaper – Reported by Kim Ha – Translated by Vi Bao
