Binh Duong puts more effort into expanding and diversifying transport system

To serve the purposes of socio-economic development, Binh Duong province is concentrating on transport infrastructure investment, especially rail network and expansion of seaports, bus terminals in the province.

Strengthening the railway network

The current North – South railway line passing through Binh Duong has a length of 9km, width of 9m, an area of ​​about 23.32ha. Two stations, Song Than and Di An, are not able to meet all travel as well as freight needs by rail. It is expected that in the near future, Binh Duong will have An Binh station (71 ha) and Nghia Son station (0.72 ha). According to plan, in 2016- 2020 period, Binh Duong will construct Di An - Loc Ninh railway crossing Binh Duong with 55,2km long. The railway line linking Binh Duong - Binh Phuoc will have 5 stations, which will be convenient for passengers and goods transporting.

Representatives of Department of Transport said, travel needs of provincial people would increase rapidly in the next few years. Therefore, the railway system will contribute to the diversification of transport means, reducing traffic congestion in Binh Duong City.  Notably, in 2016-2020, Binh Duong will complete the urban railway of 28,2km long, which will connect the province’s heart with huan An, Di An and Suoi Tien. This railway line will be aerial and completed by 2020.  Besides, some urban railway routes will be constructed after 2020 comprise Thu Dau Mot - Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong New City - My Phuoc - Bau Bang - Long Nguyen, Binh Duong New City - Uyen Hung - Tan Thanh, Vinh Phu - Uyen Hung, Binh Duong New City - Phuoc Vinh, My Phuoc - Dau Tieng, covering all districts, towns and cities in the province.

Expansion of ports and bus terminals

Binh Duong is one important locality of the southern key economic region; has an expected population of 2.5 million in 2020, leading to a great pressure on the transportation infrastructure. Leaders of Department of Natural Resources – Environment said the province had increased the land resource in the land use planning (2016-2020) for bus terminals and stops. Currently, Binh Duong has 8 bus terminals with an area of less than 5ha. In the future, the province will expand the area of ​​Phu An bus terminal (Thuan An Town) from 0.45ha to 2ha, Bau Bang from 0.56ha to 1ha, Ben Cat from 0,62ha to 1ha. The province will also construct 9 new bus terminals in districts, towns and city with a total area of ​​25.2ha, and 3 stops in Phu Giao, Bau Bang District and Thuan An Town with an area of​​4.96ha.

The province has now nearly 23,000 domestic and foreign enterprises; thus the demand for warehousing, freight is increasing day by day. PPC planed to widen, build new river ports serving business needs. Namely, Thanh Phuoc port will be expanded from 24.3ha to 53ha; Thai Hoa port cluster will be constructed with an area of 15ha. Particularly, Rach Bap, Ben Suc, Thanh An, Phu An, Ba Lua port have been also planed in the 2016-2020 ... Besides, the province has 2 dry ports (ICDs) Song Than and TBS - Tan Van. ICD Song Than has an area of ​​50ha; ICD Tan Van will be expanded from 2.6ha to 73.12ha in 2016-2020.

In can be said, Binh Duong has fully prepared for railway, waterways, and road transport infrastructure with a long-term strategic vision to meet the needs of comprehensive socio-economic development.

According to PPC, Binh Duong will contribute to the construction of HCMC - My Tho - Ca Mau railway. As planned, the entire route is 320km long; during the phase before 2020, the length of HCMC - My Tho - Can Tho will be executed; the remaining section will be executed after 2020 to connect the north to south. Particularly, the length passing Binh Duong with 5,7km long, double track, 1,435mm size, guest station in Vinh Phu (Thuan An Town). This will be an arterial railway line connecting South Western industrial parks with the southern key economic zone.
