Binh Duong’s agricultural sector overcomes obstacles, improving production

Although facing difficulties because of bad weather and epidemic diseases, Binh Duong’s agricultural sector in Q1 2014 still reaped encouraging results. This contributed to orient and advocate the local farmers to promote production, sci-tech transfer, new rural construction… 

Overcoming difficulties

Binh Duong’s agricultural sector in the first three months of 2014 encountered many difficulties, due to bad weather, epidemic diseases…But, the province’s total area under cultivation for the winter-spring crop was still ensured with 7,087 hectares or 98% compared to last year’s corresponding period.

The sector also instructed provincial Plant Protection Department to opportunely guide the local farmers how to present epidemic diseases on various plants…

In Q1 2014, many localities nationwide were hit by bird flu, greatly affecting the domestic agricultural sector. But with high vigilance, provincial Veterinary Department tightened control over the development of bird flu for timely solution.

The H5N1 bird flu outbreak only occurred at small-sized breeding facilities in North Tan Uyen district’s Hieu Liem commune, Thuan An town’s Vinh Phu ward, TDM city’s Phu Hoa ward. All poultry infected with the H5N1 virus were culled promptly, aiming to prevent the spread of the disease on large scale. So far, the province has stamped out this dangerous disease. This result came from the efforts by the local agricultural sector in vaccination, quarantine and control over the slaughtering of poultry.

Speeding up sci-tech transfer

Over the past time, Binh Duong’s agricultural sector made many practical activities, contributing to speeding up new rural construction and sci-tech transfer among the local farmers, supporting them to promote animal husbandry and cultivation with a large scale.

The sector also continuously tightened control over models and supported the remaining items of the local agricultural promotion projects implemented in 2013. In addition, the sector further cooperated with localities to monitor models on safe vegetable growing, rice growing under VietGAP in Dau Tieng district’s Thanh An commune…

Such these apart, the sector over time attached special importance to guiding the local farmers how to apply sci-tech advancements into agricultural production. The whole province has so far developed 771.8 hectares of crop plants with hi-economic value such as vegetables, mushrooms, fruit trees, ornamental trees…Currently, there are also 77 farmsteads, 4 companies on breeding chickens; nearly 4 million chickens and 106.8 pigs.

The sector also paid more attention to urban agricultural models with a total faming area of 99.5 hectares developed by 494 organizations and individuals. Besides, as many as 458 households got involved in urban animal husbandry models with a total of more than 2,520 various animals, bringing them high profits…

Over the past time, the sector acted as an advisor for provincial People’s Committee to issue many important decisions on new rural construction; made efforts in mapping out plans on new rural construction for 32 out of 48 communes. So far, there have been 5 pilot communes satisfying criteria on new rural construction.

Provincial People’s Committee Vice-Chairman Tran Van Nam said: “Although facing difficulties, the province’s agricultural sector made efforts in State administration, supporting the local farmers to stabilize and promote production over the past time. But in Q2 2014, the sector needs to pay more attention to tightening control over the safety of reservoirs and dams during the raining season; give timely support in terms of techniques, animal breeds and plant varieties for the local farmers to more effectively promote models on animal husbandry and cultivation”.
