Milestones of Binh Duong Statistical Office

After the South liberation and national reunification (Apr 1975), Thu Dau Mot province Planning and Statistics Agency was formed and named Thu Dau Mot province Economic Commission (in Nov 1975, Thu Dau Mot and Binh Phuoc province were merged into one province called Song be province). In Jan 1976, provincial Economic Commission was renamed Song Be province Planning Commission and Department of Statistics; Mr. Nguyen Duc Ha, Vice Chairman of PPC, took charge of this agency.

On June 19th 1976, Song Be province Statistical Office was established under Decision No. 146/QD of Song Be province People’s Committee. Staff of this office was mobilized from various sources including source B (support for the South battlefield before and after the liberation day), source from the army and local source. On Dec 9th 1996, General Director of General Department of Statistics issued Decision No. 591/TCTK-TCCB to form Binh Duong Statistical Office and Binh Phuoc Statistical Office and began to operate from Jan 1st 1997. Then, Binh Duong province implemented Prime Minister’s decrees on e adjustment of administrative boundaries, re-establishment of districts of the province; establishment of district Statistical Offices according to the decision of General Director of General Department of Statistics. At present, provincial Statistical Office has 9 subordinate offices at districts, towns and city.

Mr. Ngo Van Mit, Director of provincial Statistical Office, said, because Binh Duong was a dynamic industrial province, accurate and fast information was very useful to the state management and helped to provide diversified and abundant information for businesses. This task requires each statistical official to be cautious about each figure in each field.

Contributing to provincial growth

Provincial Statistical Office released publications, such as: Statistical Yearbook; Song Be province Socio-economic main indicator system - 20 years of construction and development, Binh Duong province Socio-economic data system of 12 years (1997-2008); “Binh Duong - Main statistical data in 3 years 2006- 2008", “Binh Duong - 5 years of construction & development 2006- 2010", “Binh Duong - 5 years of construction & development 2011-2015". These publications have helped state agencies, individuals, organizations to get an overall view of the growth in all aspects of Binh Duong province. These data are also the foundation assisting the state management and socio-economic development orientation of the province on the path of industrialization and modernization.

Looking back on 40 years, besides achievements, Mr. Mit is concerned about that socio-economic information does not fully and timely satisfy customers; quality of statistical data is still limited; analysis and forecasting activities do not really meet statistical requirements. Statistical personnel have been reinforced and cultivated, but are still weak and inadequate compared to task requirements in the new period.

According to provincial Statistical Office, in the coming period, the unit will focus on some important tasks, such as: Best ensuring periodic and extraordinary socio-economic information to serve the leadership of the Party, government at all levels, meet well the needs for statistical information; consolidating and strengthening statistical inspection activities, ensuring statistical activities in the province to be executed in accordance with laws; regularly reinforcing statistical apparatus and personnel from provincial to district, town and city.

The sector also pays attention to stable statistics from communes, wards, towns and businesses; training of professional skills, political theory, public management, foreign languages, computer skills for officials to meet mission requirements in the new period. The sector will also promote research and application of advanced statistical methodologies, information technology into statistical activities ... in order to ensure the best, the most accurate and fastest information for everyone.
