Binh Duong students emulate to train virtue and talent

Over the past 73 years, with specific actions, generations of Vietnamese students wrote a glorious history, worthy of being a pioneering intellectual force, taking the lead in homeland construction.

Following the glorious tradition

On January 9, 1950, the Youth Union for National Salvation and the Saigon - Cho Lon Student Union, students of Thu Dau Mot province mobilized and organized a demonstration with the participation of more than 2,000 students together with many teachers and 7,000 people from Saigon - Cho Lon. The demonstration demanded to ensure security for students to study and release arrested students and reopen schools. Although the protest group was brutally suppressed, it strongly aroused students and people’s hatred for the enemy and will to fight against foreign invaders. From that event, the first National Congress of the Vietnam Youth Federation, which took place in February 1950 in Viet Bac, decided to take January 9 every year as the Traditional Student Day.

In early 2009, provincial Youth Union Standing Committee directed the Youth Unions of universities and colleges in the province to take steps to establish their Student Associations. Accordingly, on September 13, 2009, Binh Duong University was the province’s first university to establish and launch its Student Association and then the Student Associations of all schools in the province were born. In November 2009, provincial Youth Union Standing Committee established a mobilization board for the establishment of Binh Duong Student Association to prepare steps and conditions for the establishment of an official Student Association of the province. On January 8, 2013, provincial People's Committee issued the Decision No. 4798/QDUBND, officially establishing Binh Duong Student Association.

Tran Thi Diem Trinh, Secretary of provincial Youth Union, Chairwoman of provincial Student Association said that since its establishment, provincial Student Association has undergone two congresses. Over the past time, the Executive Board of provincial Student Association over periods was creative, united, unified leadership, directed the work of the association and the Binh Duong Student Movement with many proud results. The year 2023 marks a journey of 13 years of efforts for the development of the Binh Duong Student Association. Many new and creative models have been implemented to actively support the learning and training of members and students in the province while creating a positive social effect, with the support and great attention of the departments, sectors, mass organizations, the management boards of schools…

Emulation to train virtue, talent

Since its establishment, provincial Student Association has actively carried out the tasks of uniting, gathering students, nurturing, educating revolutionary ideals among them through the Youth Union, associations’ programs and projects, namely the project of informatics universalization; the project on law dissemination for young people in Binh Duong province; organized meetings and dialogues between Youth Union members, students and local leaders and units.

The most prominence in the work of the association and the student movements in the province is the deployment and cultivation of revolutionary ideals for students through studying and following Ho Chi Minh's thought, morality and life style with many creative solutions. In addition, provincial Student Association has well realized the “Student with five good performances” movement, a noble title of Vietnamese students, which is a standard measure of a comprehensive student in terms of ethics, learning, physical fitness, volunteering, integration.

The Association has had many solutions in implementing the “Student with five good performances” movement such as implementing the model of connecting and supporting students winning the title with partner companies and provincial Young Entrepreneurs Association; the model of fostering and promoting students with the title in association with innovative start-up activities, building Binh Duong smart city. Up to now, 28 students of the title “student with five good performances” at central level, 505 at provincial level, more than 90% of students with this title have stable jobs after graduation.

Academic activities and scientific research have also been effectively implemented by provincial Student Association at its facilities, creating an environment to help students adapt to new training methods.
Especially, volunteer activities among students in recent years have also achieved many outstanding results. Annually, a large number of students actively participate in volunteer campaigns and programs. During the complicated period of the Covid-19 epidemic, provincial Student Association mobilized nearly 7,000 students to voluntarily support pandemic prevention and control.

In order to create an environment for students to improve their foreign language skills and integrate internationally, provincial Student Association was proactive to select students with excellent academic achievements and being good at foreign languages to establish a team of volunteers to coordinate with other departments, sectors in the province to well serve national and international events hosted by the province over the past time. In addition, activities of exchange and friendship between Binh Duong students and international ones, namely the cultural exchange program “Chung dong Me Kong” (Sharing Mekong river), the annual cultural exchange program with young people from South Korea’s Daejeon city…were also organized in a diverse way...

With these achievements, provincial Student Association was awarded the certificate of merit by the Prime Minister in 2015, the third-class Labor Medal by the State President in 2020 and received the excellent emulation flag for the activities of the association and the student movement of the Secretariat of the Vietnam Student Association Central Committee for 13 consecutive years, together with many other certificates of merit from ministries, central sectors, mass organizations and provincial People's Committee.
