Voluntary blood donation is a very significant movement. Over the years, Binh Duong University students have positively engaged in voluntary movements for the community. Of these, voluntary blood donation has lured countless students.

Aside from training work, the university directorate in cooperation with the university youth union has mobilized staff and students to join in the provincial Red Cross Society’s movements. The university has been always considered as an excellent unit in mobilizing staff and students to join in volunteer blood donation campaigns. The number of blood donors has increased strongly. Since the school year of 2005-2006, the university has mobilized its employees and students to donate 1.530 units of blood.

To reach the above result, Huynh Ngoc Phu, vice secretary of the university youth union, said ‘the mobilization work of volunteer blood donation is always focused by the university directorate. Besides, the university youth union has excelled consultancy and set out initiatives to improve efficiency of the mobilization. Before organizing the volunteer blood donation campaigns, we promulgate significance, purpose of the campaigns and rights and interests of participants…’. Phu has engaged in volunteer blood donation campaigns for 7 times. Many students involving in volunteer blood donation campaigns have mobilized other students to join in the movement. The way has improved its results. In the 2009-2010 school year, the university collected 586 units of blood, compared to 102 units in the 2005-2006 academic year.

In addition, the university youth union has applied many other ways to lead in volunteer blood donation campaigns. For example, the union has equipped knowledge on volunteer blood donation for students and mobilized students to join in blood donation campaigns held at the university and other localities.

At present, the entire university has had 127 youth sub-unions with the participation of 9,000 students. Annually, the university holds 1-2 voluntary blood donation campaigns. Phu added that the university youth union would hold about 3 campaigns per year in the coming school year.
