Binh Phuoc: ethnic minorities assisted to get rid of poverty

Update: 08-05-2024 | 15:33:58

Over the recent years, central and local policies have helped many ethnic minority households in Bu Gia Map, an extremely disadvantageous commune in the district of the same name in the southern province of Binh Phuoc province, to overcome difficulties and gradually stabilise their lives.

Chairman of the commune People's Committee Pham Sy Hoan said that the remote and border commune is one of the five in the province with special difficulties. The entire commune has 1,776 households, of which ethnic minorities account for 73.6%, and poor and near-poor households make up of 11.65%.

Therefore, creating conditions to support locals in developing production, stabilising their lives, and getting rid of poverty is one of the key tasks of Party committees, authorities, and unions at all levels. The commune has concretised programmes and policies, and mobilised and integrated resources to support people in developing production and business.

From available resources, the locality has implemented concerted measures to disseminate, review, and conduct statistics on social security needs, and provide loans. With timely support meeting the actual needs of each household, the poverty rate has decreased significantly over the years.

Currently there are only 127 poor and 80 near-poor households in Bu Gia Map commune./.
