Chess player Do Hoang Minh Tho shines after her father

Being a youngest daughter to Binh Duong Chess team coach Do Nguyen Thanh, player Do Hoang Minh Tho is usually called a talented daughter.

Mr. Do Nguyen Thanh has studied in Czecho-Slovakia for ten years when he learned about chess which was rather new in Vietnam at the time. When returning to Vietnam, he nurtures his dream of improving chess playing in Vietnam and particularly in the province. To follow his dream, he taught his four children how be good in chess playing. And, he succeeded in training them into prize-winners in the province. Excluding the oldest son, his three younger daughters - Do Huu Thuy Trang, Do Ngoc My Le and Do Hoang Minh Tho, are entitled national excellent players.

 

Player Do Hoang Minh Tho is the best of her sisters when she won FIDE good player title at her 15 years of age.

 

“Although she is the youngest in the family, her spirit is very high on chess board. She hardly is satisfied after chess games or tournament. Of the there sisters, she is the most potential,” said Mr. Do Nguyen Thanh.

Actually, of the three sisters, Tho was introduced to chess when she was 2 years old. At her 5 in 2002, she won a medal in Vung Tau tournament of young players and became the youngest winner.

 

And, she gained consecutive success. After 10 years of playing chess, Tho won 3 gold medals in Mien Dong Open Chess tournament. In national tournaments, she won 1 gold medal, one silver medal and 1 bronze medal. Meanwhile, she won 3 gold and 1 silver medals in Southeast Asia Young Tournament.

 

The year 2010 marks her utmost success with 2 gold medals won in national tournament and 3 individual and team gold medals in Philippines.

 

Chess takes up much of her time but she maintains 9 consecutive years of excellent school student. As a result, Mr. Do Nguyen Thanh encourages Tho to be a good student during her training to become a professional chess player.
