Using liquefied natural gas (LNG) for production and business now becomes a trend because LNG is a clean and environmentally friendly fuel. The trend is supported by the provincial leaders when Petrol Vietnam Gas (PV Gas) decides to offer the fuel for local IPs. This is a development trend in conformity with local orientation in the following years.
Advantages of LNG
Nguyen Trung Dan, member of PV Gas’ executive board, said LNG has been traded on the world market widely. Countries importing LNG with a large volume include Japan, Korea, Taiwan, China, Spain, Italia… whilst the world’s biggest LNG exporters consist of Australia, Russia, Middle East…
Local leaders witness a MoU signing ceremony between PV Gas and local businesses. LNG is natural gas that has been supercooled to minus 260 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 162 degrees Celsius). At that temperature, natural gas condenses into a liquid. The natural gas fed into the LNG plant will be treated to remove water, hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide and other components that will freeze (e.g., benzene) under the low temperatures needed for storage or be destructive to the liquefaction facility. LNG typically contains more than 90% methane. LNG is an energy source that has much lower air emissions than other fossil fuels, such as oil or coal. LNG is odorless, colorless, non-corrosive and non-toxic. Its weight is less than one-half that of water. The use of LNG is a proven, reliable and safe process. Natural gas is the world’s cleanest burning fossil fuel and it has emerged as the environmentally preferred fuel of choice.
When in liquid form, natural gas takes up to 600 times less space than in its gaseous state, which makes it feasible to transport over long distances.
Using LNG, businesses will save costs of fuel for production, increase longevity of equipment, minimize costs of maintenance whilst localities minimize harmful emissions.
At present, demand on using LNG is surging whilst supply is limited. To ensure LNG supply, PV Gas has launched a project to import LNG. From 2014, PV Gas will import one million ton of LNG per year. In the initial time, PV Gas will offer LNG for the Southeastern region, of which Binh Duong province is the first locality in the strategy.
Measure of LNG provision to the province
PV Gas will offer LNG for Binh Duong from 2014. PV Gas will select local industrial parks and client compounds with demand of 10,000-30,000 tons of LNG per year. Transport of LNG from Thi Vai base depot will use 10-15 ton tankers.
In the strategy of developing LNG in Vietnam, PV Gas highly appreciates Binh Duong’s potentials. With 28 IPs, the province has a great potential in using LNG. In the coming time, the province will make efforts to help businesses learn more about clean production and strive to reach about 50% of local enterprises to apply more clean production technology.
The provincial People’s Committee vice chairman Tran Thanh Liem affirmed that LNG will be suitable to Binh Duong province’s development orientation, so the locality will offer favorable conditions for PV Gas to get success in providing LNG for local IPs and businesses.
