Clean water to the countryside

Coming to people in some rural areas in the province in the past hot days, we see the worrysome of clean water shortage cooling down to be replaced by the joy shining on the faces of the people. The appearance of clean water supply and rural environmental sanitation projects has quenched the thirst of clean water, contributing to improving the quality of people's lives, and changing the face of the countryside.

The spreading joy

For many years now, clean water works, not only in cities and towns, have come to existence in rural communes, turning the wishes of thousands of households into reality as well as changing their minds regarding the use of clean water in the community.

Under the sweltering heat, watching Pham Thi Minh Quyet, group 2, Tan Thanh hamlet, Minh Tan commune, Dau Tieng district discharge the cool water from the clean water works comforted us. Quyet said: “My family has lived locally since before 2000. From 2020 we are provided with a concentrated source of clean water. Before that, the family had to drill a well to have water for our own use. After a few months, we had to change sand and gravel to filter, but the water source had not been treated, so it could not be called clean. Now, clean water is brought to the house; the worry of lack of clean water for daily life is no longer there."

In Phu Giao district, sharing the same excitement, Dinh Thi Mai living in residential area of 1A hamlet in Phuoc Hoa commune, said: "Clean water is more precious than gold. My family uses water from a clean water supply project of very good quality; whether it is rainy or sunny, the water is always clear, cool, and odorless. Sanitation works of the family have been built solidly with a septic system.

The source of clean water to rural areas has ensured the indispensable needs in the daily life of each person, each family and is an important factor in protecting health and improving living conditions for residents in the countryside. Chu Van Giap, Head of the concentrated water supply station in Minh Tan commune of Dau Tieng district, said that Minh Tan water supply station had been operating since 2003 with a capacity of 400 cubic meters per day-night to serve nearly 700 households. Up to now, the capacity has increased a lot to 1,400 cubic meters per day-night on hot days and about about 1,200 cubic meters per day-night on rainy days to serve 1,553 households. Minh Tan has a very abundant water source, always ensuring even during hot seasons or holidays.

The countryside changes

Pham Binh Long, Deputy Chairman of the People's Committee of Minh Tan commune, shared that the clean water and environmental sanitation program had brought many practical benefits to help thousands of people in the commune to use clean water and improve health and safety in the community, contributing to bringing the commune to the advanced new rural commune. Currently, the total number of households using clean water in the whole commune is account for 77.34% as 100% of households have a system of toilets, latrines, and hygienic water storage tanks.

Most people understand the role and importance of clean water and the potential risks of using untreated water that will directly affect human health. Nguyen Mau Canh of group 4 in Tan Thanh hamlet, said that clean water as well as environmental sanitation are important in protecting the health of the community, so the family is always conscious of protecting water sources by using economically for the right purpose. And, the toilet is built to the right standards.

Like many other localities, the concentrated water supply project in Phuoc Hoa commune of Phu Giao district has been operating since 2007 to not only provide domestic water for people but also contribute to ensuring the environmental criteria in the program of new rural construction. Up to now, the number of households in the whole commune using clean water is more than 2,339 out of 3,761 households, accounting for 62.2%. Currently, the commune has met the criteria of new rual commune and it is expected that by the end of 2023 after completing and putting into use the investment project to expand the 34,320m pipeline, it will increase nearly 500 households to use concentrated clean water, contributing to meeting the criteria of advanced new rural areas.

Le Xuan Thang, Head of Phuoc Hoa Commune Water Supply Station, added: "In addition to supplying water to households, the station also ensures water sources for schools, fire protection units, commune People's Committees. The effective implementation of the rural clean water and sanitation program has brought rural residents a new quality of life, contributing to changing the face, and promoting the local socio-economic development.

Quality water source

When the bad effects of rural environmental pollution become more and more alarming, bringing clean water and sanitation to the countryside is a positive solution. In order to ensure the quality of the water source, the exploitation and treatment process is carried out according to the standards to help people use at ease.

According to Nguyen Van Tu, Vice Principal of Minh Tan Primary School of Minh Tan commune in Dau Tieng District, as soon as the commune's clean water station came into operation, the school registered for use and so far the water source is always of good quality. In particular, the school provides half-boarding meals for 400 to 450 students per day, so hygienic water is very important. The water supply station provides periodic inspection of water quality and indicators to ensure the prescribed standards. After being chemically put into use, restrooms all meet the standards.

Nguyen Khanh Truong, Director of the provincial Center for Clean Water and Environmental Sanitation, said: “In order to manage and monitor water quality, the Center invests in testing equipment. Water supply stations are equipped with quick test equipment for pH and Chlorine indicators, thereby adjusting the amount of chemicals accordingly. In addition, to ensure the quality of clean water at rural water supply works in the area, the Center annually coordinates with specialized units to regularly conduct internal inspection and testing of physico-chemical-microbiological criteria according to the instructions of the Ministry of Health. The results of the samples taken for testing have met the standards.
