Bau Bang district has always defined that collective economy plays an important role in the local economic development, in which cooperatives and cooperative groups are considered as main factors. Under the 2012 Cooperative Law, the district has recently made changes in cooperatives and cooperative groups to promote the local collective economy towards modernity and sci-tech application with combination between production, processing and consumption.
Creating favorable conditions for development
Bau Bang district is now home to 5 cooperatives on agricultural production, construction and transportation with 53 members and 9 cooperative groups on animal husbandry, cultivation and production with 101 members. There are also 7 farmers’ clubs, 1 farm club, 1 animal husbandry club, 30 linkage models and more than 260 farmsteads. The total initial capital of cooperatives in the district is more than VND17.1billion and cooperative groups with more than VND3.4billion.

Tran Thanh Liem, Permanent Vice-Secretary of the district’s Party Committee cum Head of the district’s Steering Board of Collective Economic Development said that 3 out of 5 cooperatives and 6 out of 9 cooperative groups in the district have so far made changes under the 2012 Cooperative Law. Defining that collective economic development is among 19 criteria of the new style rural construction program, the district has reinforced and perfected steering boards of collective economic development at all levels; regularly disseminated legal documents regarding collective economic development for cooperatives and cooperative groups, facilitating their production expansion..., thereby contributing to creating jobs for locals and bring them stable incomes.
Le Hoang Chau, Chief of Taiwanese-origin guava cooperative group in Tru Van Tho commune said that established in October 2013, the cooperative has lured 11 members with a total farming area of 12 hectares. Thanks to the attention and help of the local authorities at all levels, all the farming area of the cooperative has reached high productivity with quality ensured at safe standards. With the selling price of VND9,000 kg per kg, Taiwanese-origin guava orchards under the cooperative have contributed to bring stable incomes to locals.
Association with local development orientation
Implementing a task of collective economic improvement and development under the spirit of the 5th plenum Resolution of the 9th Party Central Committee and the Resolution of the district’s Party Congress, the district’s Steering Board of Collective Economic Development has promoted collective economic forms with a focus on effectively fostering cooperatives and cooperative groups in accordance with the 2012 Cooperative Law while making close linkages between State, farmers, scientists and businesses for better development.
Leaders of the district have also put forward a policy to foster cooperatives and cooperative groups in association with the local orientation of industrial, urban and service development. Accordingly, cooperatives and cooperative groups on services, construction and transportation will be responsible for some local works, projects based on their own capacity. For agricultural ones, they will be developed with hi-tech application in association with processing and consumption.
To achieve the above targets, the district has boosted attraction of investment projects into hi-tech industries, especially processing ones to ensure consumption markets; call on effective cooperatives and cooperative groups to make coherence for better development; promote the development of new-style collective economic models with diversification in scopes at the local needs for development during the industrialization-modernization process.
Mr.Liem added that along with further maintaining existing trademarks, the district needs to step by step build up specific cooperative trademarks based on the local strong points; attach special importance to propaganda work so that locals can know more about benefits when joining cooperatives, cooperative groups as well as support policies for their establishment…
