Update: 10-02-2023 | 12:55:26

In 2023, in order to best fulfill the socio-economic development goals, Binh Duong focus on removing difficulties and obstacles with determination to operate and successfully organize the implementation of the public investment plan. The province will start construction of a number of key transport infrastructure projects while prioritizing the connected traffic works and quickly putting into use the projects that are about to be completed.

Hieu Liem ferry port in Bac Tan Uyen district is where the construction of Hieu Liem 2 bridge is planned to connect with Vinh Cuu district in Dong Nai province

To satisfy trading needs

Binh Duong and Dong Nai are two provinces located in the Southern Key Economic Zone. Due to natural conditions, the two provinces are separated by the Dong Nai River. Previously, the connectivity traffic was mainly by Dong Nai bridge through National Highway 1 and Hoa An Bridge throught National Highway 1K. In May 2010, Thu Bien Bridge connecting Tan Uyen town of Binh Duong province with Vinh Cuu district of Dong Nai Province was officially inaugurated. Thu Bien Bridge is a project invested by two provinces of Binh Duong and Dong Nai with a length of 511 meters, a width of 17 meters, and a total investment amount of more than VND 162 billion. Thu Bien Bridge is a key traffic work to meet the travel needs of people in the region. At the same time, the bridge is also one of the bridges built on the Vanh Dai 4 of Ho Chi Minh city connecting the Southeast provinces, making important contributions to the socio-economic development goals of Bac Tan Uyen district, Vinh Cuu district and the whole region.

However, the location of the bridges is quite far apart in a traffic separation affecting the economic and commercial development of the region. After Thu Bien Bridge, it was not until more than a decade later that one more road bridge construction project connecting traffic jointly implemented by Dong Nai and Binh Duong was established. On December 27, 2021, the construction of Bach Dang 2 Bridge was officially started in Bach Dang commune of Tan Uyen town and Binh Loi commune of Vinh Cuu district.

The bridges have created favorable conditions for socio-economic development of both sides. About more than 10 years ago, when arriving in the land of Thuong Tan and Lac An, there was still a lack of vitality as houses and population were quite sparse with no appearance of any towns. But now, the two communes of Thuong Tan and Lac An have changed flesh as along the DT746 road, houses close together with crowded marketplaces. Phan Thi Nhu, a resident of Lac An commune, said: "Lac An was originally a remote and agricultural commune of Tan Uyen district in the past, now it belongs to Bac Tan Uyen district. The population was sparse, the economy was not developed. Thu Bien Bridge has created favorable conditions for local people to travel, exchange and purchase goods to and fro Vinh Cuu district of Dong Nai province, contributing to the development of people's economic life.

Hieu Liem commune in Bac Tan Uyen district has the advantage of specializing in citrus cultivation such as oranges, tangerines, pomelos, and durians with an area of up to thousands of hectares. Every day, on average, hundreds of tons of fruit from Hieu Liem commune are harvested and transported to neighboring provinces, especially Dong Nai and Lam Dong. At the same time, the volume of fertilizer is transported from Dong Nai to citrus orchard owners of Hieu Liem commune is in large quantities. However, at present, transportation is still via ferries every day, which is time-consuming and difficult for people and small businesses to travel around.

Tran Van Trong, owner of citrus orchard of Hieu Liem commune, said: “If a bridge is built connecting Hieu Liem commune of Bac Tan Uyen district to Vinh Cuu district in Dong Nai province, it will be great advantages for our people. The transportation of fruits and goods will not be far, but shorter in terms of distance, transport time, better costs and quality of goods.

4 more bridges across Dong Nai and Be rivers

In order to remove difficulties and obstacles in regional linkage between the two provinces of Binh Duong and Dong Nai, based on the actual survey and in order to strengthen the traffic connection, the units at the meeting between the leaders of the two localities agreed to add 4 bridge positions across the Dong Nai and Be rivers including Hieu Liem 2 Bridge, Tan An - Lac An Bridge, Tan Hien - Thuong Tan Bridge and Thanh Hoi 2 Bridge.

Currently, the Electricity of Vietnam is implementing the project of Tri An Hydropower Plant expansion, including the investment item of Hieu Liem bridge across Dong Nai river connecting Tri An commune with Hieu Liem commune and Vinh Cuu district. Therefore, the branches agreed to add 1 location to build Hieu Liem 2 bridge across the Be river connecting Hieu Liem commune in Bac Tan Uyen district of Binh Duong province with Hieu Liem commune and Vinh Cuu district in Dong Nai province.

For Tan An - Lac An bridge over Dong Nai river connecting Lac An commune, Bac Tan Uyen district with Tan An commune in Vinh Cuu district, there will be connection points at DT768 road location with Suoi Ngang street of Tan An commune in Vinh Cuu district with a new opening route to DT746 oriented to connect to DT745B in the estimated scale of 6 lanes (4 lanes for motor vehicles and 2 lanes for rudimentary vehicles). Tan Hien - Thuong Tan Bridge over Dong Nai River will connect at the location of Huong Road 6 of Ba Mieu Ferry Terminal 2 with a new open road to provincial road 746 oriented to connect to DH414 in the expected scale of 6 lanes (4 lanes for motor vehicles and 2 lanes for rudimentary vehicles).

Along with that, Thanh Hoi 2 bridge crossing the Dong Nai river has a connection position at Binh Hoa ferry terminal on the shore of Dong Nai province and Nhat Thanh ferry terminal on the bank of Binh Duong province. The road bridge will connect Thanh Hoi island of Tan Uyen town in Binh Duong province with Binh Hoa commune of Vinh Cuu district in Dong Nai province.

Recently, Nguyen Van Danh – Deputy Chairman of the provincial People's Committee, surveyed the current status of the proposed investment location of Hieu Liem 2 bridge, connecting Hieu Liem commune of Bac Tan Uyen district in Binh Duong province with Hieu Liem commune, Vinh Cuu district in Dong Nai province. At the survey, Nguyen Van Danh agreed on the policy, orientation, location and route to build the bridge. For the next implementation process, the Deputy Chairman of the provincial People's Committee suggested that the Department of Transport and Communications should initially invest in the construction of provincial traffic works, and the Office of the provincial People's Committee coordinate with units and localities to study and update the planning to expeditiously make reports on the basis of the survey and available documents.

Nguyen Van Danh emphasized that the investment in building Hieu Liem 2 bridge will create favorable conditions for people's circulation and trade in goods by promoting connectivity between Binh Duong province and Dong Nai province in general and the districts of Bac Tan Uyen and Vinh Cuu in particular. The construction of Hieu Liem 2 bridge will gradually improve the transport infrastructure in the area, contributing to promoting the local socio-economic development and limit the risk of waterway traffic accidents in the rainy season and protect the environment for the safety of people's lives and property. At the same time, the construction is also the aspiration of the people of Hieu Liem commune in Bac Tan Uyen district and Hieu Liem commune in Vinh Cuu district.

Hieu Liem Bridge 2 was built in the area of Hieu Liem ferry terminal connecting Hieu Liem commune of Bac Tan Uyen district with Hieu Liem commune of Vinh Cuu district in Dong Nai province. Currently, the construction location of Hieu Liem bridge has been updated by the district People's Committee in the draft construction planning of Bac Tan Uyen district until 2040 and provided information for the consulting unit to include in the provincial planning according to regulations.
