Cooling products expect purchasing power on rise

Update: 22-03-2010 | 00:00:00

According to a survey carried out at TDM town-based electric appliances centers, the prices of cooling products like fans and air conditioners have seen average increase between 5%-7%.

A series of air conditioners with “inverter technology” have been launched during the dry season

The prices of domestic fans have increased between VND20,000-VND40,000 per unit while air conditioners have seen the prices rising from VND200,000-VND400,000 per unit. Meanwhile, the prices of imported cooling products have risen between VND500,000-VND700,000 per unit.

Representatives of these electric appliances centers said that the price increases of cooling products have came from the VND/US$ exchange rate increase. The sharp increase in prices of the input materials has also been seen as one of the reasons leading to the price increases. It is predicted that the prices of cooling products will increase by 5%, at least in April and May as they are in the peak dry season months.

Producers have also launched many cooling products with modern functions and diversified designs in the dry season of 2010. But, according to the owners of TDM town-based electric appliances shops, the sale of these products remains quiet compared to the previous years.

According to the preliminary estimation, the purchasing power of cooling products have decreased by 20% compared to the corresponding period of last year. But, businesses still believe that their purchasing power will go up in the coming days when there is information predicting that this year continues to be a year having hot weather with high temperatures.
