After Bau Bang district was officially established, Lai Uyen town had played the role of an administrative, economic and urban center. In recent years, Bau Bang district has focused on investing in transport infrastructure, industrial park infrastructure, upgrading and developing Lai Uyen urban area. Currently, Lai Uyen urban area has been recognized as a grade 5 city in Decision No. 1555/QD-UBND dated June 15, 2017 of Binh Duong provincial People's Committee and has been established by the government as Lai Uyen town in Resolution No. 535/ NQ-UBTVQH14. Lai Uyen has an administrative area of ​​88.36km², accounting for about 26% of the district's natural area to play the role as the political, economic, cultural and social center of the district and to promote the district's development. Urban population of Lai Uyen town is 29,707, accounting for 31.67% of the total population of the district at a population density of 336 people/km². Currently, in Bau Bang Industrial Park and urban area, 7 residential areas of ​​1,160 ha have fully been invested in technical infrastructure to meet the needs of people's housing construction. Urban areas and residential areas will make an important contribution to create an urban appearance and improve the quality of life for residents. According to the urban upgrading plan, Lai Uyen will become a grade 4 city in 2021-2025.

Mr. Vo Thanh Giau, Chairman of the People's Committee of Bau Bang district, said that the recognition of Lai Uyen town as a grade 4 city will create a basis for realizing the province's urban development goals and expanding investment to achieve technical and socio-economic infrastructure connection between Bau Bang district and Ben Cat new urban area for the comprehensive development of the area, and improve living, working and studying conditions for people. At the same time, this is also the basis to facilitate the concentration of investment capital with a focus on physical infrastructure, social infrastructure as well as technical infrastructure for surrounding areas to ensure that the urban classification criteria are met. In addition, the upgrading of Lai Uyen township to a grade 4 urban center will create a legal basis and conditions for strictly managing investment and construction in the area in accordance with the general direction, gradually forming new urban areas with its own characteristics, identity, specific development orientation towards the planning of subdivisions to complete infrastructure to meet urban development goals.

Recently, Bau Bang district has focused on attracting investment and developing the economy in the direction of increasing the proportion of industry - services, and reducing the proportion of agriculture. Lai Uyen town had officially played the role of an administrative, economic and urban center. The promotion of urban development has become one of the goals and motivations for Bau Bang to attract investment.

Bau Bang district is interested in promoting infrastructure investment, not only contributing to the achievement of urban upgrading criteria, but also contributing to improving the business investment environment and supporting business development. Bau Bang Industrial Park and Urban Area of ​​​​up to 3,200 hectares, invested and built by Becamex IDC with a synchronous scale, offers complete infrastructure and a strong development momentum for Bau Bang to soon become a major industrial center of Binh Duong.

In addition, the district has focused on investing in transport infrastructure and completing many key projects. Up to now, Bau Bang district has invested 100% in asphalting and concreting district and commune roads of 213.173km of 47.48% of the plan. Bau Bang is also interested in investing in transportation infrastructure that is relatively synchronous, linking and connecting between regions and areas in the province such as the My Phuoc - Bau Bang developmental road, which has been put into operation and use, Bac Tan Uyen - Phu Giao - Bau Bang that are being accelerated. Electricity, water and other technical infrastructure are also invested in to basically meet the needs of people and businesses in the area.

Thanks to the effective investment attraction policy, Bau Bang has more and more foreign investment projects with large investment capital such as Kolon Industries Group deploying the project of a factory to manufacture tires and car airbags with investment capital up to USD 1 billion in a land area of ​​nearly 42 hectares in the expanded Bau Bang Industrial Park; Polytex Far Eastern (Taiwan) Co., Ltd. has invested and put into operation phase 1 with a total capital of nearly USD 800 million and is implementing a phase 2 project with a total area of ​​​​nearly 220 hectares in in Bau Bang Industrial Park. The 2 phases was estimated at more than USD 1.3 billion.

In particular, the district is being promoted by the province to build and develop a science and technology industrial park in the Binh Duong Innovation Zone which is expected to be a strong "push" to awaken the potential and strengths of the new land. At the same time, it will be a lever to attract investment and create a driving force for the development of high-tech industry, and promote local socio-economic development.
