The 15th session of the Central Steering Committee for Corruption Prevention and Control was held in Hanoi on June 29 to review the fight against corruption in the first half of this year and devise tasks for the remaining months.

The session was attended by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and Deputy Prime Minister Truong Vinh Trong, who is also Deputy Head of the Central Steering Committee for Corruption Prevention and Control.

Over the past six months, communication and education about the fight against corruption have been enhanced in combination with the “Following and studying President Ho Chi Minh’s moral example” campaign.

The Ministry of Home Affairs, the Government Inspectorate and the Ministry of Public Security have worked closely together to perfect anti-corruption institutions by making amendments and supplements to some decrees on transparent declaration of property and incomes, and pushing through administrative reform.

During the reviewed period, legal agencies have prosecuted 184 persons involved in 100 corruption cases and tried 97 cases with a total of 258 defendants on charges of corruption.

The Government Inspectorate has conducted 25 inspections to consider whether State groups and corporations abide by the law while carrying out major investment projects.

In addition, inspectors from sectors and localities have also performed more than 4,000 inspections to combat corruption and prevent wastefulness.

At the session, representatives from the Ministry of Public Security reported the results of investigation in to the case of the Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Group (Vinashin) and the steering committee focused on ways to handle this case and tasks for the second half of this year.

In his speech, PM Dung praised relevant agencies for their good performance in the fight against corruption and called on them to increase the efficiency of inspections, investigations and trials.
