Creating impetus for development of Thu Dau Mot city

Mobilizing sources for development

Lam Phi Hung, vice chairman of Thu Dau Mot city People’s Committee said that to match with the second class urban area, Thu Dau Mot city has over the past time given priorities to technical and social infrastructure facilities and capacity of urban management. System of traffic, water supply-drainage and environmental hygiene has showed an encouraging development. Many works with advanced architectural styles have created civilized and modern manners for the city.

Especially, implementing the provincial party committee’s Resolution No.32-NQ/TU dated on May 19, 2011 on building and developing Thu Dau Mot urban area in the period of 2011-2015, Thu Dau Mot city party committee and authority considers the Resolution as an important task.

With the common goal is to mobilize maximum all sources for building and developing Thu Dau Mot to take this city into the first class urban area by 2015 in a bid to build Binh Duong New City into a modern and civilized city.

Thu Dau Mot city’s highlighted character lies in high growth pace with an average increase of 24.8% in the period of 2010-2012 and average income of VND53mil/capita/year. Specifically, the total area of building urban traffic roads is more than 1,500ha, accounting for 23% from the area of urban construction.

Aside from 1,840 routes managed by provincial and municipal levels and investors, 1,175 routes have been managed by communal and ward levels.

Phu My ward is the typical unit for movement of making rural traffic roads. Until now, 80.5% of routes managed by the ward authority have been asphalted, facilitating local people’s transport. Nguyen Hoang Minh, chairman of the Phu My ward People’s Committee said that to facilitate local people’s transport, the ward has launched many effective and creative deeds. One of important conditions creating decisive factors for this success is the very unity of cadres and people in the ward.

Meanwhile, Chanh My commune has reached gigantic development to gather conditions for becoming Chanh My ward in the future. Nguyen Thi Bach Tuyet, chairwoman of the Chanh My commune People’s Committee said that to become Chanh My ward, the commune has focused on some concrete tasks to create breakthroughs. The locality’s top priority lies in planning work, especially plan on launching the national goal program on new rural building for the period of 2011-2015. During the process of new rural building, it is necessary to attach to planning, land using plan, socio-economic infrastructure planning.

At present, Chanh My has 3 urban and housing projects with around 400ha, accounting for nearly 56.7% of the communal area. These projects include garden villas project, Chanh My eco-urban are project and Tuong Binh Hiep-Chanh My commercial housing project.

Efforts to finish the remaining goals  

Until now, Thu Dau Mot city has basically reached standards of the second class urban area in line with the Government’s regulations with more than 90 points.

At present, this city has focused on finishing criteria on population density, lighting rate at valleys. Specifically, standard on population density only reaches at 5,366 people/km2 whilst requirement of the second class urban area is at 8,000-10,000 people/km2; rate of alleys with lighting system must be at 55-80% whilst the locality only wins 47%.

Hung added that Thu Dau Mot city has focused on economic development, especially investment and human resources attraction, good management on planning and urban development. Once 21 residential area projects are finished in 2014 and the provincial Politics and Administration Integrated Center put into operation, population density will increase rapidly. Besides, funeral home has been under construction with the scale of nearly 1.4ha and investment capital of VND40bil.
