Vietnam plans to set up a national coordinating committee for information specifically related to ASEAN, said Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Do Quy Doan. Doan made the statement while attending the 13th Conference of the ASEAN Subcommittee on Information (SCI 13) which opened in the central city of Danang on June 12. He said that Vietnam has integrated deeper into the region with many of its domestically produced programs being broadcast on other ASEAN television channels. The country will draw up a national communications plan to disseminate information on ASEAN’s three pillars of politics-security, economy, and social-culture, he added. The two-day meeting was attended by numerous senior officials in charge of information services from all 10 ASEAN countries and their three dialogue partners: China, Japan and the Republic of Korea. The participants reviewed the implementation of the Action Plan and Communications Plan for the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community and the Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity. They also discussed plans to carry out several projects in 2012 and 2013, especially those to use digital television technology in ASEAN countries by 2020, and to exchange TV and radio programs among the member countries.
