The signing was made at a conference Tuesday in Ho Chi Minh City organized by the Embassy of Denmark.

The move aims at bringing wind energy to the forefront as a sustainable energy solution for Vietnam which will help to address the country’s fast rising energy demand, the embassy said in a statement.

According to Chris Beaufait, President of Vestas Asia Pacific & China, Vestas has been a first mover in Vietnam’s wind power sector.

“With an experience delivering wind energy in 73 countries around the world, Vestas looks forward to working with its partners and colleagues here to help Vietnam realize its great wind energy potential.”

Beaufait said he believed “Vestas can help our customers to shape their competitive edge in the Vietnamese market.”

Nguyen Viet Cuong, President of Phu Cuong Group said the company has a wind energy pipeline of 800MW in Vietnam, beginning with the 170MW project.

Vestas has has installed one of the first commercial wind farms in Vietnam on Phu Quy island consisting of three V80-2.0 MW wind turbines, totaling an output of 6 MW, generating approximately 27.3 million kWh of electricity every year.

Globally, Vestas has installed more than 52,700 wind turbines, reducing carbon emissions by over 60 million tons of CO2 every year.

According to Danish embassy, Denmark has for more than 30 years managed to create economic growth without increasing energy consumption while at the same time reducing CO2 emissions.

Wind energy provide more than 33 percent of Denmark’s electricity consumption today, which is the highest level of wind power integration in the world.
