Diverse support activities for workers' children going to school

As the new school year begins, tens of thousands of workers' children in the province have received scholarships, textbooks, bicycles and other school supplies from the efforts by the local trade unions at all levels. These meaningful activities have helped many underprivileged students overcome difficulties, rising up in their studies.

Sharing workers' hardships

Over the past time, provincial trade unions at all levels implemented numerous programs to support the education of workers' children facing difficult circumstances. Many programs, namely "Wings for Dreams", "Giving strength to school" and "Textbooks, notebooks to school" were organized. Particularly, the care for workers' children at grassroots trade unions was prioritized and expanded.

The Trade Union of Binh Duong provincial Garment and Textile Industry has recently raised funds to support scholarships for the offspring of workers facing hardships

For example, along with the efforts to improve the lives of workers, the trade union local of Response VN Co., Ltd. has also collaborated with the company's directorate to effectively conduct charitable activities. Every year, the company awards scholarships worth over VND 500 million to the offspring of poor workers in and out of the company.

Le Van Bien, Chairman of the company's trade union local stated: “For the 2024-2025 school year, the company plans to award scholarships worth around VND 500 million. This is a meaningful charitable program and the company’s directorate will further support the offspring of poor workers in the following years. The trade union local is also building a great “mutual aid” fund to support workers in the future”.

On September 8, Phong Thai Rubber Co., Ltd. in Ben Cat city is expected to award about 30 scholarships to workers' children. Students with excellent academic results will receive VND 1 million each and those with good results will receive VND 700,000 each. Additionally, the trade union local will organize a Mid-Autumn festival and distribute gifts to all workers' children. Before the new school year, the company also asked its departments to make a list of workers' children in need of admission to local kindergartens and primary schools in Tan Dinh ward so that representatives of the company’s directorate could contact the ward's People's Committee and schools ‘managements boards to secure enrollment for these children. As a result, the company successfully enrolled seven children in kindergartens and primary schools, allowing them to live close to their parents.

Over the past years, besides awarding scholarships to workers' children, the trade union locals of companies with thousands of workers such as Yazaki EDS Vietnam Co., Ltd., Hai My Co., Ltd., and Shang Hung Cheng Co., Ltd., encouraged their directorates to build kindergartens and subsidize tuition fees at the educational needs of thousands of workers' children.

Tens of billions  of dong spent on supporting workers’children

Every year, the care for workers' children is significantly supported by the labor unions of districts, cities and industrial parks’ trade unions. Through funds raised, these organizations have provided thousands of scholarships and school supplies to students.

Tens of bicycles are donated to workers' children with difficult circumstances as the new academic year begins

Recently, the Trade Union of Binh Duong Garment and Textile Industry, in collaboration with sponsors, donated 14 bicycles, 140 backpacks and supported 135 students who are the children of trade unionists and workers with difficult circumstances, for the 2024-2025 school year, with a total value of around VND 110 million. The Labor Unions of Thuan An and Tan Uyen cities have also awarded hundreds of scholarships to workers' children with good academic achievements.

According to provincial trade unions at all levels, at the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year, 17,652 scholarships were awarded to poor trade unionists and workers’children with good academic results. These scholarships included both cash and gifts (backpacks, school supplies, bicycles, cakes, milk, etc.) worth more than VND 11.5 billion.

Through these activities, provincial trade unions at all levels have clearly demonstrated their role and responsibility in caring for the lives of workers, particularly poor workers’ children with good academic results.

Ong Thuy Hoang Mai, Vice Chairwoman of provincial Labor Union emphasized that caring for the children of trade unionists and workers, especially those with difficult circumstances  is a priority for provincial trade unions at all levels. Provincial Labor Union has directed trade unions at all levels to mobilize organizations, agencies, businesses and donors to join hands in taking actions for children. Supporting children at the beginning of the school year, helping them achieve their future dreams is always attached special important to and is spreading widely.
