Doctors of war time

Vietnam Physicians’ Day (Feb.27) is to honor healthcare staff. Regarding medical staff of today, we can not forget physicians of the resistance war time. Their contribution and sacrifice created great victories for the country.

For revolutionary cause

 

Binh Duong revolutionary medical sector was set up after August Revolution (1945) to serve for people and revolutionary force. Doctor Tran Cong Vi who was used to hold the position of head of Thu Dau Mot Hospital said that the hospital opened first aid classes during the resistance wars to serve for people and soldiers’ healthcare.

 

When the anti-French resistance war began, aside from healthcare at hospitals and clinics, medical staff of the resistance war period worked eagerly at battlefields.

 

With the profound patriotism, all people together joined in the resistance wars. Drug stores’ owners granted medicines, traders offered money whilst medical staff served for sick and wounded soldiers at battlefields.

 

The provincial medical committee was officially set up in the end of 1946, till April, 1947 the committee’s affiliates were launched across localities. In early 1948, the local medical sector was developed strongly, the work of medical staff training was reinforced sharply.

 

During the anti-American resistance war, the provincial medical sector was constantly developed comprehensively. Across the battlefields, army medical forces excellently completed their tasks, contributing to create glorious feats.

 

Apart from taking care of people and soldiers’ health, army medical forces joined positively in food production, vegetable growing and among others.

 

Sacrifice for the country

 

Doctor Nguyen Hoang Dung, former vice director of the provincial Health Department silently dedicated to people and soldiers’ healthcare. Dung was trained in the Northern and worked at the Southern battlefields.

 

He told that he was assigned to join in the nurse training class for the first time in 1961. After the class ended, the army medical committee set up a surgery team led by him. Despite difficult circumstances, the team’s members combined Western and traditional medicines to treat for sick and wounded soldiers.

 

Doctor Pham Diep Duoc, former director of the provincial Traditional Medicine Hospital who was used to join in the anti-French resistance war, revealed “During the resistance war, medical staff worked on spiritual factor”.

 

Role of physicians is very important during the resistance wars. Truong Trung Nghia, former vice director of the provincial Health Department who was used to join in the anti-American resistance war, said “I feel proud of being joined in the two historic campaigns of Mau Than and Ho Chi Minh. Despite difficulties, medical staff of yore made greater efforts to treat for sick and wounded soldiers”.

 

During the 2 resistance wars, Binh Duong people and soldiers dedicated to the country’s victory. In the glorious triumph, there are great contribution and sacrifice of local army medical forces.
