“Dream house” is not a dream for the poor

Nguyen Thi Gai, over 60 in hamlet 4, Tan Hiep commune, Phu Giao district is one of 3 people enjoying unity houses, each worth VND30mil, granted by Vietcombank Binh Duong. Gai, said “I’ve never wished of a spacious house. Earlier, we lived in a dilapidated hut”. In the past, Gai lived in a dilapidated hut with her 34 year old mental son. Aside from her modest income, she has enjoyed a VND340,000 subsidy/month from local authority. And now, she is so very happy that she can not say anything.

 

A couple of Dau and Hanh enjoy a new house.

Meanwhile, a couple of Nguyen Tan Dau and Phi Thi Hanh along with their 4 children living in hamlet 1, Tan Hiep commune have also faced poverty. And, a solid house is their whole dream. Besides, Le Thi Bay’s 3 generations also the same locality lived in a thatched cottage and dared not wish of a solid house.

Joy of new houses

With the hi-unity houses, the mentioned poor people enjoy a secure feeling. Bay, said “From a thatched cottage to wall house is a big change. We will be more secure to earn a living” whilst Hanh, said “From now on, I’m very happy when living in this hi-unity house. I’m very grateful to donors and local authority”.

Nguyen Dinh Phuc, director of Vietcombank Binh Duong, said the bank has always made efforts to excel charity activities and charity house granting for the poor is one of significant deeds that the bank has done over years.

In 2010, “Truong Son gratitude” program co-conducted by Liberation Sai Gon Newspaper and Vietcombank has aimed at granting scholarships and gratitude houses to talented underprivileged students and poor people. Participating in the program, Vietcombank Binh Duong donated VND1.7bil to build 50 gratitude houses and to grant 100 scholarships in the 2010-2011 academic year.

According to Hoang Quoc Huong, secretary of Tan Hiep commune party committee, “the commune remains many poor households in dire need of help. We have made efforts to help them”. It is hoped that there will be more hi-unity houses for the poor.
