Time is ticking in more or less 3 weeks to the 2023 Lunar New Year, but with the poor and disadvantaged people and orphans due to COVID-19 in the province, Tet seems to be earlier. In addition to the care and attention of Party committees and authorities at all levels, the Vietnamese Fatherland Front Committee and its member organizations have actively mobilized more resources in society to bring a warm Tet atmosphere to many.

Early Tet

In the past few days, the "Tet of Compassion" program in the spring of Quy Mao 2023 (Year of the Rabbit 2023) implemented by the Red Cross at all levels in the province has brought thousands of Tet gifts to the poor, disadvantaged, and Agent Orange victims, workers in harsh circumstances and orphaned children due to the COVID-19 epidemic. In this year's program, workers were encouraged by the Red Cross at all levels with practical supporting gifts.

Dinh Thi Huyen - a native of Thanh Hoa province, working at a company at Phu Hoa ward in Thu Dau Mot city, said that workers had to take leave as affected by the reducing purchase orders of the company. Huyen is pregnant with her second child for more than 6 months, and the company has created conditions for her to work to earn, pay insurance and take care of her children, but compared to before, her income has decreased much. Huyen said: “The income decreased, so the living expenses had to be reduced. This year, I have no conditions to return to my hometown to celebrate Tet, but I am very happy to be given gifts by the provincial Red Cross so early. The gift helps me have more conditions to cover my life to stay in Binh Duong and to celebrate a warmer Tet with my small family.”

Knowing that a delegation of provincial and local leaders came to visit and gave Tet gifts to their children, Pham Thi Hanh - mother to Le Pham Quynh Nhu, a 6th grader and a father-orphaned due to the COVID-19 epidemic at Quarter 8 of Dinh Hoa ward in Thu Dau Mot city, was overjoyed. Hanh works in a factory and is currently living great challenges in a rented place with her young daughter. Recently, her job has also been affected, so her income is now only half of normal. In order to share some of the problems, bring a warm spring atmosphere to Hanh's family, and help Nhu have more conditions to go to school, the provincial Red Cross and sponsors gave her the amount of VND 12 million. In addition, leaders of Thu Dau Mot city and Dinh Hoa ward also gave her family meaningful gifts. Hanh emotionally said: "It has been more than a year since my brother passed away. I work alone to take care of 2 children, so it is quite hard. The first child is now out of school to be back to her hometown with her grandmother, only her younger daughter is in now in grade 6. Having received gifts and support money from the provincial Red Cross, sponsors and local authorities, I am very happy and will save it for my children to continue their schooling.”

The first love-filled Tet gifts given by the provincial Red Cross and its grassroots of districts, towns and cities have reached many people in the province. Activities helping the disadvantaged will be continued by the Red Cross at all levels from now until the Lunar New Year to bring more joy to people in need. Nguyen Thi Le Trinh - Chairwoman of the provincial Red Cross, said that the purpose of the "Tet of Compassion" in the spring of 2023 is to mobilize and widely connect the participation and contributions of the community to materially and spiritually help so that the poor in difficult circumstances and vulnerable can enjoy the spring and celebrate the nation's traditional New Year, contributing to building a community of solidarity and compassion. According to the plan, the whole association mobilizes and gives at least 32,600 gifts to the subjects in the program with a total value of about VND 30 billion.

The spring of sharing

In order to practically take care of the beneficiaries of social protection and the poor andthe disadvantaged to welcome the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Rabbit 2023 to be joyful and peaceful, the provincial People's Day Campaign Committee has also developed a plan to visit and give Tet gifts to the subjects. Tran Thi Kim Lan – Deputy Chairwoman of the provincial Vietnamese Fatherland Front Committee, said that on January 3 and 4, 2023, the provincial People's Day Campaign Committee will organize a delegation to visit and give Tet gifts to the poor at 13 social protection establishments in the province. The total number of gifts given would be 1,554 at a total value of VND 1,554 billion for each part of VND 1 million from the provincial Fund for the Poor. Along with that, the provincial Committee for the Day for the Poor also mobilized more businesses and units to give 400 gifts to poor and nearly-poor households and people with extremely difficult circumstances in the province; each part of gifts is worth VND 1 million.

Nguyen Hoang Thao - Standing Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, said that along with the development of the province, over the years, people's living standards have been greatly improved. However, in society, there are still many families with difficult circumstances. They need more care and support from society, businesses and the community. The humanitarian activities of the Red Cross at all levels in the province have always accompanied the disadvantaged people in society. The Red Cross has mobilized many resources to share with people in need, demonstrating the Vietnamese philosophy of gratitude and helping.

Especially, during this year's Lunar New Year, the Red Cross at all levels is focusing on implementing the program "Tet of Compassion" with the number of gifts mobilized to give to disadvantaged people at a total value of up to VND 30 billion. Together with the Fatherland Fronts, humanitarian activities, meaningful New Year gifts have shown the kindness and cooperation of the whole society that the Red Cross performs to bring a joyful and happy spring to children, contributing to well performance of social security work in the province.
