Typical models to be multiplied

To build a garbage-free city, various creative models have been implemented in the wards of Thu Dau Mot city. Specifically, there are models of model street without garbage, garbage-free neighborhood, and garbage-free alley, initiatives like "The bell rings to take the garbage to the truck" in Chanh Nghia ward, and "3-in-1 alley" (friendly alley - security camera and zero waste in Phu Hoa ward). The model of "Sanitary Community Cluster" is being especially expanded in all wards. This model promotes the role of self-management groups in environmental protection in neighborhoods, while also contributing to raising community awareness in maintaining environmental hygiene.

In Phu Loi Ward, the "Clean Environment Community Cluster" model has recently brought practical results and has been widely implemented in neighborhoods. Mr. Do Xuan Hung, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Phu Loi Ward, stated that the community plays a very important role in protecting the environment and waste sorting. This model helps raise awareness among households about the importance of waste segregation at the source, significantly reducing the amount of waste released into the environment. Additionally, the model creates opportunities for people to come together to build the community, enhancing solidarity and bonds.

The model of "Environmental Sanitation Residential Cluster" at Alley No. 1, Group 31, Huynh Van Nghe Street, Quarter 4, Phu Loi Ward is a typical example. The residential cluster consists of 22 households. With the efforts of the local party cell, the neighborhood management board, the active participation of the environmental protection self-managed group, and the enthusiastic response of residents, at 6:30 AM every day, households along the alley uniformly launch a campaign to clean up the sanitation inside their homes and the section of the road in front of their houses. Mr. Nguyen Quoc Thuan, who lives in an alley, shared that every morning, all members of his family participate in cleaning and tidying up. This is a meaningful and practical activity in protecting the environment and safeguarding the health of his family members and the surrounding community.

In Phu My Ward, the model of "Environmental Sanitation Community Cluster" is also showing good effectiveness. Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh, Head of the Neighborhood Committee for Quarter 6, stated that the neighborhood has 565 households, divided into 6 groups. The neighborhood committee and environmental protection self-management groups regularly coordinate with various associations and organizations in the ward to promote and encourage residents to participate in cleaning up the streets, sorting waste, and disposing of trash at the designated times. In the neighborhood, organic waste is collected daily, while inorganic waste is collected on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays each week.

Propaganda through good practices

To raise awareness about environmental protection and waste classification, the wards of Thu Dau Mot City have implemented various diverse propaganda activities, from meetings and training to utilizing modern communication channels such as social media. In particular, the wards focus on promoting through the establishment of exemplary models. Each ward has its own methods, suitable for the characteristics and conditions of its locality.

In Phu My Ward, the "Exchange Waste for Gifts" program is held regularly. Through this program, efforts are made to promote and encourage residents to form the habit of sorting waste at the source, thereby reducing the amount of waste released into the environment. A highlight of the communication work is that the ward has flexibly integrated the implementation with the morning coffee model for exchanges with the community and the boarding houses along with the waste-for-gift exchange program. Mr. Hoang Van Thinh, a resident living in neighborhood 6, shared: “I am very happy to participate in this meaningful activity. Thanks to the program of exchanging waste for gifts, I have reduced the amount of waste in my family and also had the opportunity to meet my neighbors.”

Mrs. Phan Thi Lan, Head of the Front Committee of Quarter 6, Phu My Ward, said that the characteristic of the neighborhood is that there are many boarding houses. Therefore, the morning coffee and the trash-for-gifts program held on Sundays in the community instead of at the ward office has attracted many residents and tenants. The money collected from scrap resources is used for propaganda work and helping those in difficult circumstances. The neighborhood also frequently guides residents on waste sorting to create habits and raise awareness about proper waste disposal.

Accordingly, the leader of Thu Dau Mot city, has actively promoted regulations regarding the time and location for waste disposal in the area. The enforcement of administrative violations for improper waste disposal has been carried out decisively, creating a high deterrent effect within the community. As a result, the situation of improper waste disposal on the main streets of the city has basically been eliminated.

To raise awareness about environmental protection in the community, in the coming time, Thu Dau Mot city will continue to strengthen communication efforts, encouraging residents and businesses to join hands in protecting the environment, sorting waste at source, and reducing plastic waste. At the same time, the city will enhance inspections and strictly handle violations of waste disposal regulations to build a green, clean, and beautiful Thu Dau Mot city.
