Since 2016, the "Binh Duong Smart City" project was officially launched and the province’s electricity sector has actively responded to the project with specific steps. Determining that the electricity sector must be "one step ahead", especially in improving management and operation technology to ensure a smooth and safe power source to serve the local socio-economic development needs.
Catching up quickly in right direction
Le Minh Quoc Viet, Director of Binh Duong Power Company said that implementing the digital transformation strategy of Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) and responding to the "Smart City" project, the company has set up a digital transformation roadmap, applying technology in its fields. Particularly, in the period of 2016-2020, the unit built and implemented many administrative software applications on digital platforms, comprising of a forum for exchanging operational information and management on electricity equipment testing, solutions to apply technology to record management and storage through QR Code and 360-degree virtual reality mapping software for stations, power grids in association with the province's geographical map... The above applications have brought positive effects.
The hotline team repairs and maintains the power grid without cutting off power, disrupting production and business activities of people and businesses
In addition, the company has focused on implementing the smart grid development plan of the Southern Power Corporation, tapping and developing an automated distribution grid operation system and automated software system to support the optimal management, monitoring and control of the distribution power grid to ensure the reliability of power supply for the project. The company has also researched and coordinated with relevant units to carry out a geographic information system (GIS) under the project for the power grid system under the province's orientation.
Operating, tapping effectively
Binh Duong Power Company’s strong application of modern technology in management and operation has truly brought high efficiency in many aspects. For example, the company’s unmanned transformer stations have helped reduce one-third of its construction investment area while significantly improving the quality, efficiency and reliability of power supply. The company’s electronic meters have completely replaced the mechanical ones, helping provide electricity usage data accurately, reliably and immediately. Electricity users can monitor electricity usage instantly, thereby changing their way of using electricity more economically and efficiently.
The installation of the electricity sector's apps and Zalo has greatly facilitated electricity users. Previously, customers received the notices of electricity costs every month and when being away from home, they had to go to the electricity headquarters to pay. But now, customers can pay at any location and the benefits from the applications have created comfort and helped them save a lot of time and effort.
With the important task of ensuring stable and sustainable energy supply to develop industrial manufacture and services with high knowledge and technology contents as proposed by the smart city project, the company has implemented many solutions to reduce incidents and reduce power losses while carrying out investment projects in construction, renovation, repair and maintenance of the system, gradually modernizing the power grid. The pace of urbanization is rapid, with more and more buildings, housing projects, and residential areas springing up. The issue of undergrounding the power grid system, especially in densely populated areas, is also being focused on by the unit, contributing to solving traffic problems, creating urban aesthetics of Binh Duong in a civilized and modern direction.
However, undergrounding the electrical system has also created certain difficulties in operational management and troubleshooting. The company has researched and applied technical solutions, equipped with modern technological equipment to serve inspection, monitoring, locating and detecting problems in underground cable systems. Modern technological equipment can be mentioned such as underground cable locator detector to serve the work of searching and determining lines when constructing and expanding roads, sewer systems, manholes, information fiber optic cable systems... The underground cable fault detection device (IRG 3000) has contributed to shortening the processing time to a few hours, quickly re-establishing power and putting it into operation. The company has also applied construction technology and grid maintenance without power cuts by constructing on live lines (hotlines) and cleaning hotline ceramics. This has helped electricity using people and businesses not to be affected when the electricity sector has conducted construction and repair of the power grid.
