Enhancing vocational training quality

Update: 11-10-2012 | 00:00:00

The Vietnamese Government has paid due attention to improving the quality of vocational training to meet the demands of industrialisation and modernisation and hone Vietnam’s competitive edge.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan emphasised this at a regional conference on vocational training, which opened in Hanoi on October 10 with the participation of Hans-Jürgen Beerfeltz—State Secretary of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany and Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Pham Thi Hai Chuyen. It brought together law makers, vocational training experts, and representatives of South East Asian manufacturers and businesses.

Nhan said that Vietnam considers human resources as one of the three breakthroughs of its 2011-2020 national socio-economic development strategy.

He said Vietnam’s workforce must meet international professional standards if it wants to satisfy regional and global demands. The quality of Vietnam’s vocational training would be improved by reforms incorporating the latest scientific and technological developments and advanced models.

Nhan also proposed strengthening cooperation in vocational training between Vietnam, Germany, and ASEAN nations, including sharing training models and establishing common standards.

Minister Chuyen expressed hopes that international organisations, Germany and ASEAN countries will offer more assistance, especially in relation to boosting Vietnam’s management and law-making capacity and attracting more ODA resources for the sector.

In the future, she said, Vietnam will strengthen ties with Germany and countries enjoying proven vocational training success..

The two-day conference, which aims to improve the quality of vocational training in the context of regional and international integration, is focused on cooperation between businesses, the development of qualified trainers, and financing for the sector.

On the first day of the conference, participants were introduced to Vietnam’s 2011-2020 national vocational training strategy.

Reports were also presented on the potential for cooperation between Vietnam, Germany, and ASEAN nations, the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development’s assistance for Vietnam’s vocational training network, and the opportunities and challenges facing vocational training in the ASEAN Community.
