Formerly called Thuan An Hoa – a land devasted by bombs of war, Thuan An city has now enlightened with industrial parks and urban development, constantly improving lives of locals.

The blooms on war-inflicted land

Thuan An city once a war zone has many revolutionary historical sites full of aspiration for fresh development. Being at the Memorial Temple of Thuan An Hoa War Zone relic at Hoa Lan 2 quarter of Thuan Giao ward in Thuan An city, we were welcomed by Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Phuoc Dat, Chairman of the Veterans Association of Thuan An to share about the history of the war zone. Thuan An Hoa was the compound name of the land belonging to 3 wards of Thuan Giao, An Phu and Binh Hoa, formed in 1946 as a suburban base at the northern gateway of Saigon. With a strategic military position, Thuan An Hoa's role was extremely important as a place to directly serve units operating in the enemy's heart and a place to gather and transfer our combat forces. Therefore, the enemy always found ways to sweep in order to destroy the revolutionary base. But with the strong will andpassionate patriotism, the local army and people always stood firmly.

During the resistance war against the US, the enemy also tried all ways to clear the Co My forest so that the revolutionary forces in Thuan An Hoa War Zone had no place to hide. They often poured rain of bombs and bullets on the land of Thuan An Hoa War Zone. Although the forest no longer existed, Thuan An Hoa thanks to the people's hearts is still a base for cadres, CPV members and guerrillas in secret bunkers. Thanks to the protection and concealment of the local people, all the conspiracies and tricks of the enemy could not shake the will and unyielding fighting spirit of our army and people. Under the correct leadership of the CPV and the brave ingenuity of the revolutionary forces and the war of the people's hearts, Thuan An army and people in particular and Binh Duong in general contributed the army and people of the whole country to create the great victory of spring 1975.

After the Liberation Day of the South and the reunification of the country, Thuan An has constantly promoted the heroic tradition and applied creativity to gradually rebuild the homeland to be more and more civilized and modern. Thuan An's efforts have been confirmed by spectacular local changes. In August 1999, implementing Decree No. 58/1999/ND-CP of the government, the district was divided into Thuan An district and Di An district. On January 13, 2011, implementing Resolution No. 04/NQ-CP of the government, Thuan An district was upgraded to a town. By February 1, 2020, Thuan An town was upgraded to a city according to Resolution No. 857/NQ-UBTVQH14 dated January 10, 2020 of the National Assembly Standing Committee.

Over the past years, Thuan An city has especially always been one of the leading localities in the industrialization and modernization of the province as the economic structure has shifted strongly towards industry, commercial services, trade and agriculture with a high growth rate. Up to now, Thuan An city has 3 industrial parks of Vietnam-Singapore I (VSIP I), Viet Huong I, Dong An and 3 concentrated industrial clusters attracting 7,300 businesses at home and abroad to invest and operate. VSIP I alone has attracted investors from more than 30 countries and territories around the world to production and business activities, creating jobs for about 95,000 domestic and foreign engineers and workers with export turnover in 2022 of more than USD 3.6 billion.

Like other people living and working in Thuan An city, Dang Thi Gai of Thuan Giao ward, an owner of a hostel of 600 rooms, said: “In the past, my family was mainly engaged in agriculture. Since the construction of industrial zones and clusters, many companies have come to produce, contributing to creating jobs for many workers. The lives of my family and other people have also changed for the better. Witnessing that Thuan An city is changing day by day and people's lives are improving, we are really happy, excited and looking forward to Thuan An city to be continuing to grow stronger."

Reaching for sustainable development

According to Thuan An city Party Committee, the work of building the CPV, authority and socio-economic development of the locality has achieved many outstanding results over the past time. In particular in 2022, although the general situation has many difficulties due to the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic. The world economic recession has had a significant impact on the socio-economic situation in the city; however, the entire Party Committee, authority and people in the area have promoted the spirit of resilience to overcome difficulties, drastically implemented tasks and solutions to restore economic development and handle them relatively promptly when the work arises, difficulties and problems. The city has completed quite well the targets and tasks set out in 2022 to achieve and exceed 15 out of 16 targets set out by the resolution. Along with that, the state management work associated with administrative reform and digital transformation is focused on. Party building and strong political system are also focused, especially the development of Party members, has admitted 164 Party members according to the target, reaching 109.3%. Defence and security is maintained.

Currently, Thuan An city is moving towards a civilized and modern city. In particular, the city focuses on implementing the industrial development space oriented by the province and the gcovernment such as transforming and improving the quality of operations of enterprises in industrial parks towards high technology, logistics, transportation services, urban services, social housing and commercial housing. At the same time, the city has gradually coordinated to relocate a number of establishments and companies according to the guidelines and plans of the province to reorganize the industrial urban space associated with services, ensuring the harmonious development between the economy and the social culture.

In particular, the city will not develop more businesses outside the industrial zones but mobilizing enterprises outside the industrial zones to convert functions and move into the planned zones and industrial zones, relocation of production facilities causing environmental pollution interspersed in residential and urban areas. Along with that, Thuan An city also implements the planning to orient the development space and concentrates resources to develop technical and social infrastructure.

Huynh Thi Thanh Phuong - Secretary of Thuan An city Party Committee, said that in the coming time, the Party Committee, authority and people of the city will continue to focus on effectively performing tasks in accordance with the set development orientation, striving to build Thuan An city to soon meet the criteria of a first-class urban area and build a civilized, rich and beautiful city. The city cpecifically continues to mobilize maximum resources to invest in strongly developing socio-economic infrastructure, maintaining economic growth, developing socio-cultural, improving people's lives. people, ensuring social security, promoting administrative reform, and building a strong urban government.
