Moving towards green and environmentally friendly production is not simple, where many barriers are in existence to overcome, but a choice has been turned into necessity for businesses in the novel context - the digital and green transformation, which is also the driving force behind economic growth towards rapid and sustainable development.
Experts are discussing at a conference on double transformation and the role of technologies in the cause of digital economy of Binh Duong province
Inevitability of trends
Binh Duong provincial People's Committee has recently collaborated with the Enterprise Development Department (EDD) and the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) to organize a conference on "Double Transformation Trends and the Role of Technology in the Mission of Digital Economic Development in Binh Duong Province", in a so-called opportunity for the Binh Duong business community to engage, exchange, and access additional information and trends in digital and green transformation.
According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Trung, Deputy Director of the Department of Enterprise Development, the current trend is not only limited to digital transformation but also goes hand in hand with green transformation. Dual transformation revolves around three main pillars: increasing sustainable productivity and economic efficiency; enhancing resilience and adaptation to climate change; reducing or eliminating greenhouse gas emissions. In this context, if Vietnamese businesses lag behind, they will be left behind, lose their competitiveness, and become more vulnerable.
To support the business community's dual transformation, the Ministry of Planning and Investment has issued and implemented a program to support digital transformation for businesses, with the desire to promote businesses' adaptation to the global digital context. Recently, the ministry has collaborated with other ministries, sectors, localities, associations, domestic and international organizations to implement various activities to enhance awareness of digital transformation for businesses. Until now, businesses have undergone significant changes in their awareness of the necessity of digital transformation. Many businesses have entered the stage of digitizing data, standardizing processes, applying digital technology, and moving towards a broader and more synchronized digital transformation.
Digital transformation is a means to realize green transformation goals, according to Ms. Pham Hoai Anh, Commercial Director of 1C Vietnam Company. Digital transformation brings many benefits to production and business activities of enterprises, helping to increase efficiency, reduce costs, enhance competitiveness for products, and can introduce new business models.

Mr. Nguyen Van Danh, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee: Recognizing the development of businesses as the health of the economy, in recent times, the province has directed the acceleration of digital transformation and green transformation in the government system from provincial to grassroots levels, while also enhancing encouragement and support for businesses to implement. In addition, through provincial planning and support policies, Binh Duong is mobilizing and encouraging businesses outside the industrial clusters in the southern area to transform their functions and relocate to the industrial clusters in the northern part of the province. Binh Duong prioritizes attracting high-tech industries with low labor shortages and owning advanced automation and intelligent technologies.
The strategic choice
In the inevitable trend of managing and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, aiming towards Vietnam's commitment to achieve net zero emissions by 2050, industrial enterprises in Binh Duong have also begun to take action. Mr. Nguyen Duc Thuan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of TBS Group, Chairman of the Vietnam Leather and Footwear Association, believes that green transformation for sustainable development is not only a common trend but also a mandatory requirement for the business community. Businesses cannot stay out of the 4.0 revolution, apply automated production lines, artificial intelligence (AI), and green development if they do not want to be excluded from the global supply chain.
Mr. Tran Quy Cuong, Director of IGB Automotive Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Song Than 3 Industrial Park, Di An City), also said that in the inevitable trend towards net zero, greening production, the company is implementing 2 key programs. The first is the energy efficiency handbook, which includes audit programs to aim for a machine performance index of over 90%. Monday is an energy improvement program aimed at finding projects to reduce energy consumption with a target of at least 3% reduction in total electricity consumption (the consecutive 2-year index is 12%). By 2030, all factories will use renewable energy and the recycling rate in waste will be over 90%.
It can be seen that many businesses in Binh Duong have adopted green production as a strategy and competitive advantage. In the province, there are some green growth models, circular economy in various industries and sectors that have been implemented, such as VSIP III Industrial Park, Lego Group (Denmark) has invested in building the first carbon-neutral factory developed in a green, sustainable and environmentally friendly manner.
