Collaboration to overcome challenges
According to Nguyen Duc Thuan, Chairman of the Vietnam Leather and Footwear Association (Lefaso) and CEO of Thai Binh Investment Joint Stock Company (TBS Group), meeting the rules of origin requirements in free trade agreements (FTA) poses many challenges for domestic businesses. Due to the underdevelopment of the domestic auxiliary industries supplying raw materials, textile and footwear companies have mostly got involved in making products on contacts and have not been able to significantly develop the field of raw materials and accessories. Therefore, breakthrough solutions are needed to upgrade the value chain in these industries, thereby creating sustainable benefits. To achieve this, it is necessary to promote the development of the supply market of raw materials in a way that is scaled, standardized and transparent, helping enterprises, especially small and medium-sized ones, to enhance their dynamism and efficiency, giving them opportunities to grow and participate in the industry's supply chain.

Mr. Thuan also gave a proposal to build a trading center for developing raw materials and innovation in the Vietnamese fashion industry in Binh Duong to support textile, garment and footwear enterprises to secure raw materials for production. If approved, it will serve as a hub for designs, material distribution, technology transfer and investment, transactions between domestic and foreign enterprises, helping untangle material supply challenges. Mai Huu Tin, Chairman of Binh Duong provincial Business Federation emphasized that Binh Duong has developed very well for many years. What the business community is now concerned about is how to create an even better foundation to move faster and further. Enterprises should also strengthen collaboration, not only in production chains, but also in logistics and supply chain value, under the mindset of "going far by going together”.
