Ethics and talent

Update: 26-02-2011 | 00:00:00

Ethics is required in every career; however, as far as medicine is concerned, ethics plays an important role in promoting physicians and doctors to enhance their knowledge to help more people.

In the face of low facilities and overloading of patients in hospital, medicine ethics is under questions even by patients. Simple comparison puts it that physicians and doctors in Viet Nam have to take care of at least 200 patients of a time while in other countries 10 is ideal quantitty.

In Binh Duong Province, the same pressure is on going. Under standard of Ministry of Health, it is acceptable to have 7 physicians and 1 pharmacist per 10,000 people; however, in Binh Duong Province, the number only stands at 5.7/10,000. In many years, Binh Duong Department of Health has organized training courses to widen human resources but staff lacking remained in 3 administrative levels of village, district, and province.

Doctor Van Quang Tan has confirmed that 12-point ethics is maintained by the department to remind them of the utmost principle of not harming patients. Thus, they are asked to improve themselves. In 2010, 104 staffs have been offered with long-term training courses and 2 MScs in oversea program.

It is projected that by 2015, there will be 6.8 physicians per 10,000 or 1,458 more doctors and 1.2 pharmacists per 10,000 or 257 pharmacists needed. By 2020, the number is expected to reach 8 and 3 accordingly. To get to the targets, more training courses are on the way.
