Vietnam on making driverless cabs is one of the few countries that has demonstrated its ability to master autonomous technology. The self-driving cab in Binh Duong new city is called Phenikaa. The cab was launched on March 26, 2021 after a long time of testing at Phenikaa University with the most advanced applications and technologies. Phenikaa Vietnam Group has researched, developed and perfected the first level 4 autonomous vehicle in Vietnam, which is the 4th of 5 levels for self-driving cabs by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). The vehicle does not need a driver and automatically stops on detecting any faults.

The self-driving car in Binh Duong new city is an electric vehicle, completely without a steering wheel, so there is no power steering system, the self-driving mode is implemented simply when the user can interact with the vehicle through tailor-made software. The model has intelligent features of artificial intelligence and most advanced technologies in the world such as 2D/3D mapping, Lidar sensors, SLAM etc to offer high safety level. During the initial experiment, the Phenikaa shuttles guests along a 750m arc route connecting the administrative center building of Binh Duong province and Hikari commercial area.
