Experiencing first-ever driverless cabs in Vietnam on Toi yeu Binh Duong

Becamex Tokyu Co. Ltd. together with Phenikaa-X, Nippon Koei Vietnam, have just tested to put into operation the driverless cabs in the new city of Binh Duong. This is the first time ever in Vietnam that self-driving cars have been tested in practice on the public transport system. Since its launch, the new self-driving car has attracted a large number of people getting to experience.

Currently, two countries researching autonomous vehicles, Japan and the United States, have tested with the highest levels of 3 and 4. Vietnam on making driverless cabs is one of the few countries that has demonstrated its ability to master autonomous technology. The self-driving cab in Binh Duong new city is called Phenikaa. The cab was launched on March 26, 2021 after a long time of testing at Phenikaa University with the most advanced applications and technologies. Phenikaa Vietnam Group has researched, developed and perfected the first level 4 autonomous vehicle in Vietnam, which is the 4th of 5 levels for self-driving cabs by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). The vehicle does not need a driver and automatically stops on detecting any faults.

Many people participating in the experience said that contemplating the panoramic view of the street on a new cab brings a lot of special emotions, let alone feeling happy and proud to be the first citizens to experience the unique public transport put into use.

The cabs have great safety thanks to smart sensors. Therefore, passengers always feel secure to get around the beautiful roads, watching the beautiful scenery of a dynamic new city that is day by day reaching new heights. With outstanding smart features such as cruise monitoring, lane control system, collision warning and vehicle speed adjustment, users can set the journey for the vehicle provided by the developer via the app on a smart device. The car can carry up to 4-5 people at a maximum speed of 40km per hour.

According to a representative of Becamex Tokyu Co., Ltd., the self-driving car project is expected to pioneer a sense of comfort along with other smart vehicles in the future that will connect into an intelligent public transport system of the smart, modern Binh Duong new city.

The self-driving car in Binh Duong new city is an electric vehicle, completely without a steering wheel, so there is no power steering system, the self-driving mode is implemented simply when the user can interact with the vehicle through tailor-made software. The model has intelligent features of artificial intelligence and most advanced technologies in the world such as 2D/3D mapping, Lidar sensors, SLAM etc to offer high safety level. During the initial experiment, the Phenikaa shuttles guests along a 750m arc route connecting the administrative center building of Binh Duong province and Hikari commercial area.

Binh Duong New City is a city that has just been recognized by ICF as the Top 7 communities with a typical smart city development strategy in the world by 2022. The introduction of Phenikaa autonomous vehicles has contributed to creating more mark on smart media application in the community with the world.
