Farmer gains success thanks to sci-tech application

Update: 10-07-2012 | 00:00:00

Le Van Xe (or called Sau Xe), the owner of Phuong Uyen farmstead in Tan Uyen district’s Hieu Liem commune is well-known as a “king” of thin-peel lemon with no seeds. But, in addition to thin-peel lemon, he has got involved in growing many other plants. To Sau Xe, the application of sci-tech advancements in agricultural production is key to his success.

Seeking his own way

Sau Xe said that he began building his farmstead in 1999. In the initial period, he grew some normal fruit trees like rambutan, durian, pomelo, longan…, but then learnt to develop other plants with higher economic value under his own way.

Sau Xe and his green-skin pomelo gardenSau Xe’s Phuong Uyen farmstead now supplies many kinds of specific farm products with an annual revenue of more than VND6bln. Green-skin pomelo with pink flesh is the key plant of his farmstead because of its high and stable economic value.

Phuong Uyen farmstead has a total area of 9.5 hectares, including 7 hectares for green-skin pomelo with pink flesh and 2.5 hectares for thick-skinned orange and sweet tangerine. It now aims at producing fruits in accordance with the Vietnamese Good Agricultural Practices (VietGap) standards.

Sau Xe said that he experienced many difficulties to achieve the current success. Especially, in a visit to farmsteads in Thailand, he felt very surprised at Thai farmers’ cultivation methods and was determined to study and apply them in production for higher efficiency.

Sci-tech application for success

Along with the development and application of sci-tech advancements in production, since 2003, Sau Xe has begun building and developing a trademark for Phuong Uyen fruits.

Phuong Uyen farmstead’s fruits have so far become the favorites for many people. They are now present at many domestic supermarkets and have been exported to China, Newzeland, Singapore…

Sau Xe said that building a trademark is difficult and keeping it is more difficult. Hence, he has constantly improved the product quality of the farmstead. He has always attached special importance to clean production…

To save production costs and raise the quality of products, Sau Xe has built a automobile watering system under technologies from many countries such as Thailand, Malaysia…

It is known that Sau Xe has step by step perfected his farmstead’s production process under VietGAP standards for further development.

For achievements done over the past time, his farmstead was awarded the certificates of merit from the Vietnam Gardening Association, provincial People’s Committee and also won the title of patriotic emulation for ten consecutive years from 2001 to 2010…
