Focusing on taking care of and stabilizing workers' lives

In ​​Tan Uyen town, there are currently 1,696 enterprises operating with more than 188,000 employees. In the face of the situation that many workers have their jobs and incomes affected, due to the reduction of orders by businesses at year-end, all-level trade unions and authorities of Tan Uyen town are trying to mobilize all resources to take care of workers' lives when the  Tet (Lunar New Year) festival 2023 is approaching.

All for workers

In the face of employees ‘difficulties, Tan Uyen town’s Labor Union has focused on directing trade union locals to implement key tasks in 2022, closely following the theme of taking care of workers' lives and jobs through practical activities of all-level trade unions. The unit continues creating influence through programs taking care of employees during the Tet festival 2023, Workers' Month, zero-dong market-days, and Month on Labor Safety and Hygiene...

In addition to proactively implementing welfare programs at enterprises, through the activities of "Worker's Month", “Reunion Day", the founding anniversary of Vietnam Trade Union…, town-based trade unions at all levels coordinated with relevant units to organize many sales activities and preferential services for employees over the past time. The town’s Labor Union also suggested trade union locals to implement activities towards employees and have solutions to support businesses and workers affected by the pandemic, including regularly grasping thoughts and aspirations, promptly removing difficulties by employees, supervising the implementation of policies to ensure trade unionists and laborers ‘legitimate interests and rights. Town-based trade unions at all levels also need to strengthen legal consultancy activities for employees, especially on issues related to employees' interests and rights such as employment, salary, unemployment insurance allowances and the Government's support policies for trade unionists  and employees affected by the pandemic.

Luu Thi Tuyet Trinh, Chairwoman of Tan Uyen town’s Labor Union said: “Facing the difficult situation that units, enterprises as well as employees have encountered in recent years, the town's Labor Union has determined the need of timely and practical support activities for laborers. This is not only material help, but also timely spiritual encouragement, demonstrating the companionship of trade unions at all levels with employees and enterprises. Hopefully, this is the motivation for employees to overcome difficulties, stabilizing their health to continue working and most importantly, they feel that they are not left behind when facing difficulties”.

Focusing on taking Tet care of employees

Source from provincial Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs said that as of December 5, Tan Uyen town had 29 enterprises stopping operations, 34 suspending operations and 11 moving to other places, 109 dissolved and 14,142 laborers with labor contracts terminated and unpaid leave. In addition, most enterprises have cut working hours, operated moderately, waited for orders, allowed annual leave and agreed to apply a policy on 5-day working week. It is expected that some enterprises will give their employees a Tet holiday earlier and longer than last year.

In order to take good care of employees during the Tet (Lunar New Year) festival 2023, Tan Uyen town’s Division of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs has advised to well implement policies to support and take good care of employees, coordinated with other departments and mass organizations to organize activities taking care of employees who stay for a joyful, safe and practical Tet. The division has also coordinated with the town's Labor Union to review and advise the town's People's Committee to consider giving 1,700 gifts for employees with difficult circumstances. In addition, the town's Labor Union will offer 220 bus tickets to employees returning to their hometown for Tet. Along with that, the units will organize the Trade Union Tet festival and support 1,500 zero-dong vouchers worth VND200,000 each for employees with difficult circumstances.

Doan Hong Tuoi, Chairman of Tan Uyen town’s People's Committee said that the town’s People's Committee has directed the town’s Division of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs to complete a plan, review and synthesize a list of subjects, and advise the town’s People's Committee on allocating the number of gifts under regulations; coordinated with relevant sectors to regularly update on changes in enterprises that have stopped operating, the number of workers returning to their hometowns and staying in the area, giving priority to support workers who cannot return to their hometown to celebrate Tet.

“In addition to the regimes, the town has also directed localities, the Fatherland Front and mass organizations to mobilize owners of the local lodging facilities to reduce rental charges for laborers. Communes and wards have set up plans to take care of the Tet (Lunar New Year) festival 2023 for subjects; mobilized resources for socialization, propagandized, mobilized organizations and individuals to support financial resources and gifts to thoughtfully pay gift visits. The town's People's Committee has directed units and localities to monitor and distribute gifts in a harmonious and reasonable manner... ", Mr. Tuoi emphasized.

Tan Uyen town has paid support and settlement of policies for employees affected by the Covid-19 pandemic under the regulations of the Government and the province to ensure opportuneness, publicity and transparency. Specifically, Tan Uyen town’s People's Committee has approved the list and disbursed rental support for 352,373 turns of employees working for 1,438 enterprises, with a total amount of VND 176 billion, reaching the rate of 100%; approved the list and disbursed rental support for 49,580 turns of employees returning to the labor market at 952 enterprises with a total amount of VND 49.58 billion, reaching the rate of 100%.
