Foreign tourists like catching fish with bared hands

Update: 06-11-2015 | 18:22:20

Catching fish with your bare hands at The BCR tourism zone in Ho Chi Minh City’s District 9 has become a popular activity among visitors, both local and foreign, where they have 20 minutes to catch a fish in a 150 sq m pool.

Rather than sitting around for hours next to a fishing rod, many prefer to scramble after the fish on their own to relax and have fun.

Hundreds of red tilapia swim around the pool in knee-high water. Despite their best efforts, most people leave empty-handed because it’s no easy feat to catch a fish bare-handed.

“This is the first time I’ve tried this and really enjoyed it,” one foreigner told local media. “It’s difficult, but a bit easier if a group works together.”

Twenty minutes in the pool costs VND50,000 ($2.25), with a maximum of ten people each time.

Mr. Tran Van Loc, Director of The BCR, said people love the game, with many families coming to give it a try. “Originally the idea was to give people a way to relax, but many play so they can catch a fish to take home,” he told local media. “Groups can catch a lot of fish, so we put a limit on the number.”
