Forum on legal and sustainable furniture value chain in Vietnam
On October 28, at Becamex Hotel in Binh Duong New City in Thu Dau Mot city, the General Department of Forestry under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) coordinated with a multi-party core group under the framework of the VPA/ FLEGT and the German Organization for Cooperation and Development (GIZ) to organize the forum on legal and sustainable furniture value chain in Vietnam. Attending the forum was Pham Van Dien - Deputy Director of General Department of Forestry, Pham Van Bong - Director of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Delegates have a dialogue on promoting legal and sustainable furniture value chains in Binh Duong
The forum's objective is to promote dialogue among stakeholders in the forestry industry, including Government agencies, furniture associations, NGOs and development partners on the legal timber supply chain. The forum has contributed to promoting legal and sustainable furniture supplying chains in Vietnam and trading partners through enhanced communication and information sharing on activities to achieve common goals.
The forum featured publications showcasing the achievements of core group member organizations and stakeholders in the sector in their quest to ensure legal timber and responsible timber trade.
Speaking at the forum, Pham Van Bong said that the forum is of great significance as it is an opportunity for businesses, state management agencies, domestic and foreign scientists to exchange, approach, and clarify international regulations to share solutions and initiatives to effectively implement the legal timber value chain in the domestic processing industry and in Binh Duong province.
