Update: 17-03-2010 | 00:00:00

The Vietnam’s Association of Seafood Exporters and Processors (VASEP) has reported that the US Department of Commerce (DOC) released its final outcome of its administrative review of anti-dumping tariffs levied on Vietnamese frozen catfish fillets between August 1st, 2007 and July 31st, 2008.

According to the DOC’s fifth review, four frozen catfish fillets exporters, QVD, Vinh Hoan, Samefico, and Cadovimex II did not sell products under the US market’s price. Therefore, these companies would enjoy a zero-percent tariff rate.

Vice Chairman of VASEP, Nguyen Huu Dung said that this is only the DOC’s preliminary outcome in the review and the last one will be released in the next three to four months. Moreover, the 0% tariff rate on the four exporters will be considered and changed annually.

In a related issue, VASEP reported that over the past two months, tuna export enjoyed a 150% increase in turnover and a 170% increase in volume compared to the same period last year.

Vietnamese seafood enterprises exported 3,000 tonnes of tuna to the US, worth USD15 million. Together with traditional markets such as Canada and Japan, local enterprises are targeting to new potential markets such as the Bahamas and Libya.
