Full-day instruction in elementary schools: Education quality improved

Update: 01-02-2012 | 00:00:00
Under the scheme of full-day instruction at elementary level, 62 schools in the province have been applied with the same, of which 31 schools are in half-day stay. According to evaluation of Department of Education and Training, education quality of schools under full-day instruction is high with over 85% of credit and good students without disqualified students. The total time amount of a full-day class is 7 hours per day (4 in the morning and 3 in the afternoon). Engaging in full-day instruction, teachers are more active in arranging time for teaching, e.g. teachers may choose to follow MOET’s curriculum in the morning and students can practise in the afternoon after being equipped with the theory. Teacher may then identify weaker students to help them follow their peers. Thus, students can grasp the lesson right at school without needs for homework. With plenty of time for a day, teachers may choose to promote students in local educational activities and be closer to the students.According to our classroom observation in one afternoon sponsored by Ms. Pham Thi Hien – the 2nd grade teacher of Le Hong Phong School in Thu Dau Mot Town, we recognize that students are grouped to be taught. While better students were doing their exercises, slower students were helped by the teacher. Teacher joins up with students in lesson Students can easily access universal education for they are offered more time in a day learning at school. For instant, at Tran Phu Elementary School, education quality is ensured by full-day instruction approach, helping 100 students to have more time attending 3 chess classes.Mr. Dong Ngoc Chieu, Head of Elementary Education Office under Department of Education and Training, informed that full-day instruction approach encourages schools to offer half-day stay for students who may engage in lunch-time leisure such as movie, reading, and games. The education sector is calling for more donation from parents to refine the scheme of full-day instruction. Reported by H.Thai – Translated by Vi Bao
