Getting rich from the V.A.C model

Update: 23-05-2012 | 00:00:00

Phung Xuan Thuc, 57, is now well-known for his successes in the V.A.C model in Phu Giao district’s Tam Lap commune. He is the district’s first person bravely getting involved in the V.A.C model with the annual income of hundreds of millions of dong. So far, many local farmers have also studied and followed his V.A.C model, bringing good results…

In 2011, Thuc and his family left Dong Nai for Phu Giao district’s Tam Lap commune in Binh Duong to earn their living. Under the V.A.C model, he bravely borrowed loans to breed chickens, tortoises and plant fruit trees.

According to Thuc, breeding tortoises brings farmers high economic efficiency.

He now breeds around 3,000 or 4,000 tortoises per year. He last year sold over one ton of tortoises with prices ranging between VND250,000 and VND370,000 per kg, helping him secure more than VND200mln in profit.

According to Thuc, the tortoise-breeding model only requires small capital, but brings fat profit

Due to the strong spread of bird flu in recent years, he has changed to breeding pigs. His farmstead is regularly home to 200 super-lean pigs and 100 cross-bred wild boars. To take full advantage of pig fertilizer, he has bred some kinds of freshwater fish with the annual income of more than VND500mln.

Thuc and his family now secures an annual income of more than VND300mln from the above V.A.C model. To gain the current result, they experienced many difficulties and tried their utmost to overcome them.

As a deputy head of Tam Lap commune’s freshwater-breeding cooperative, Thuc has taken initiative in searching capital sources for members and organized tours to share and learn experience from the effective models for better development among members.

With achievements in homebased business development, Thuc’s family has won the title of “Good farmer in production and business” and recognized as a provincial-level cultural family for many consecutive years.

In 2010, Thuc was also awarded the title of “Good farmer in production and business” from the Vietnam Central Farmers’ Association and represented Binh Duong to give a report on the V.A.C model at the Vietnam Central Farmers’ Association.
