Giving good care for children

Update: 10-06-2013 | 00:00:00

As a locality with rapid growth, Binh Duong has absorbed a large number of immigrant laborers for living and working. This has also made the local situation of social evils get complicated, affecting children. Despite difficulties, Binh Duong has made efforts in child protection, care and education, bringing initial results…

Along with providing the regular allowance of VND1.2bln for more than 2,000 children a year, provincial Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs (DoLISA) has made many projects regarding child care and protection. Particularly, provincial DoLISA mobilized all social sources to donate 300 wheelchairs to disabled people; granted health insurance cards worth nearly VND1bln to more than 14,000 children with extremely difficult circumstance.

Over the past time, the local functional agencies jointly provided vocational training for nearly 300 disable children with a total expense of VND500mln; opened free classes on computer while mobilizing organizations and individuals to award more than 8,000 scholarships worth nearly VND2bln, more than 10,000 notebooks, textbooks and 500 bicycles to disadvantaged children…There were also 70 children with heart disease funded for surgery. Obviously, all charity activities from socio-economic organizations and donors in the province warmed the heart of children with extremely difficult circumstance.

Binh Duong has so far developed 10 clubs on “Children with prevention of HIV/AIDS” with 300 members and 2 clubs on “Children with prevention of accidents” with 840 members. Especially, 58 clubs on “Protection and support of children with extremely difficult circumstance” last year absorbed 1,160 participants.

To achieve the above results, provincial DoLISA constantly sped up propaganda activities via the mass media; teamed up with relevant agencies to organize extra-curricular activities at some schools to educate children about how to prevent sexual abuse, open talk shows on life skills and school violence prevention; widely launched the registration for the building of well-off, equal, advanced and happy families among people from all walks of life; granted nearly 2,000 free bus cards for disadvantaged children…

Despite some shortcomings, Binh Duong reached initial results after  8 years of executing the Law on Child Protection, Care and Education. Noticeably, Binh Duong has so far paid more attention to children, especially those with extremely difficult circumstance.
