Global space launch failures in 2010

Update: 27-12-2010 | 00:00:00

"A space launch failure is an unsuccessful attempt to place a payload into its intended orbit. This definition includes all catastrophic launch mishaps involving launch vehicle destruction or explosion, significant reduction in payload service life, and extensive effort or substantial cost for mission recovery. It also includes the failure of the upper stage of a launch vehicle, up to and including spacecraft separation on orbit.  " ----"Space Launch Vehicle Reliability", U.S. Aerospace Corporation

In 2010, several states encountered space launch failure accidents. However, it will not weaken the determination of human beings toexplore the mysteries of the universe, and great spaceexpeditions will continue in the future.

India communication satellite launch fails December 2010

India's launch of its latest communication satellite failed Saturday afternoon after the rocket GSLV-F06 carrying it developed a technical snag soon after its take-off from the southern spaceport of Sriharikota, sources said.

"The rocket geosynchronous satellite launch vehicle (GSLV) carrying communication satellite GSAT-5P exploded mid-air just moments after it took off from the Sriharikota rocket launch center. The launch at 16:00 p.m. failed due to the technical fault in the first phase," the sources said.

Three Russian satellites launched earlier  Sunday have crashed into the Pacific Ocean off Hawaii Islands after falling off course, RIA news agency reported.

Russia's space agency Roscosmos is not available for confirmation at present.

South Korea's locally assembled space rocket, which lost contact only 137 seconds after the takeoff, crashed after reaching altitude of 70 km, Seoul's news channel YTN reported Thursday.

YTN pictures showed the rocket falling from the sky.
