Good preparation for “Lai Thieu in ripe fruit season 2015” festival

The “Lai Thieu in ripe fruit season 2015” festival themed “Lai Thieu in meeting season” will officially take place from June 20 to 25 in Hung Dinh ward and other places in the area of Lai Thieu orchard in Thuan An town. The festival includes a fair on fruits and nurslings, a trade-tourism fair, a southern folk opera festival…With the theme of “Sweetness of southern fruits”, the fair on fruits and nurslings is expected to absorb 60 fruit booths arranged along the embankment of Cau Ngang.

According to the organizing board of the “Lai Thieu in ripe fruit season 2015” festival, the annual festival aims to introduce the image of Lai Thieu orchards to visitors at home and abroad and is also a chance for provinces and cities in the southern region to exchange and seek business opportunities, contributing to promoting the local socio-economic development.

Under the instruction of the festival’s organizing board, Thuan An town will have 40 booths at the festival and organize 10 fruit-selling points at orchards for tourism connection. Of these, 18 booths come from Hung Dinh ward and 21 from An Thanh, Binh Nham wards and An Son commune.

Thuan An town is also teaming up with relevant units to well realize preparatory steps for the festival as planned, including presiding over a meeting with farmers in the area of Lai Thieu orchard in order to ask for them to sell fruits in accordance with price as stipulated; improving lighting equipment along the embankment of Cau Ngang; mobilizing farmers to take part in fruit booths at the festival…, according to Huynh Thi Thanh Phuong, Vice-Chairwoman of the town’s People’s Committee.

At the festival, Hung Dinh ward has 16 booths and 6 fruit-selling points at orchards. Nguyen Van Hung, Vice-Chairman of the ward’s People’s Committee said that the ward has coordinated with functional agencies to implement a price list on fruits at the festival among trading households. The ward has also set up a hot line to answer locals, visitors and enterprises’ queries during the festival.

To Vo Thanh Quan, Vice-Chairman of Thuan An town’s Farmers Association, the association has also teamed up with relevant agencies to grant “Lai Thieu mangosteen” trademark certification to trading units. The association is expected to print 30,000 trademark stamps and bags in preparation for selling around 20 tons of mangosteens during the festival.

At a recent meeting, Tran Thanh Liem, Vice-Chairman of provincial People’s Committee has asked for relevant agencies to carry out plans, ensuring the “Lai Thieu in ripe fruit season 2015” festival to take place successfully. He added that the festival would also contribute to raising public awareness of improving fruit specialties in the area of Lai Thieu orchard, thereby promoting the local ecotourism development.
