They are public servants at grassroots level who are closest to the people and clearly understand their situation. Among them, there are people who are elderly but still work hard, go to each family, every doorstep to assist the people overcoming the pandemic.

 Efforts to sustain green zones

Early in the morning, at a mass testing site in Quarter 4, Tuong Binh Hiep Ward (Thu Dau Mot City), there was a silver-haired Party Secretary working together with volunteers to arrange everything, prepare for testing of local residents. Right from the early days of this Covid-19 wave, Duong Phuoc Tra, Secretary of Quarter 4's Party cell, has been diligent with a portable speaker on a motorbike, running around this neighborhood to promptly propagate necessary information of disease prevention and control to people. Some days, he roamed on his motorbike to carry goods and distributed vegetables and fruits to households in the area. He was also on guard duty at checkpoints from 6 am until 6 pm before returning home...

Since the Covid-19 broke out again, Tra has upheld the spirit "fighting the pandemic like fighting the enemy", has kept a high sense of responsibility, been an example of actively propagation about disease prevention and control. Thereby, he has helped residents understand, agree and abide by the disease prevention and control regulations, the neighborhood has sustained its "green zone" criteria, no infected people for a long time.

Duong Phuoc Tra is present at the test site very early, guides people through the procedures to receive subsidies during the pandemic time.

Recently, Thu Dau Mot City has eased the social distance, inter-neighborhood checkpoints and blockades were removed. On the day when the checkpoints were removed, at noon, Tra suddenly received an information that there was the first Covid-19 case in Quarter 4 at a funeral. After receiving the information, Tra and members of local Covid Community Team reminded residents to strictly follow disease prevention regulations, fulfill medical declaration requirements, declare the population of each group, set up lists of F1, F2 cases, monitor and detect suspected cases to take timely intervention measures.

He spent a lot of time receiving and directly answering people's questions and concerns. “This is also a lesson that we have learned in pandemic prevention and control work. We can't be neglectful at any time. The Covid-19 is very dangerous, so after the first infection case, the quarter cooperated with the ward's Covid-19 Steering Committee to perform immediately contact tracing. Up to now, the disease has been basically controlled", said Tra.

After 35 years of involving in this neighborhood's management, 16 years as Secretary of the quarter's Party cell, residents in the neighborhood often mention Tra as an exemplary, responsible, enthusiastic public servant.

Mutual affection kept going

In the evening, Nguyen Quang Dy, Head of Administrative Board of Quarter 6, Phu Loi Ward (Thu Dau Mot City), completed screening test for 400 residents. In joy, Dy announced: "There are no positive cases today". To help each citizen, I must be a "shield", that is Dy's motto as taking part in the pandemic prevention and control at his locality. Dy also knows that the cooperation and consensus of all residents to be the key factor to drive the disease away.

At 74 years old when you should relax much, Dy has rushed to fight the Covid-19, facing many dangers. Every day, he has to be in regular contact, face the risk of infection. Everyone has a family, everyone wants to be safe and healthy, but this man carries another responsibility towards the community. During this pandemic time, Quarter 6 has a total of about 30 F0 cases, 2 deaths because of this disease. In order to share the great loss with the patients' families, Dy and mass organizations in the neighborhood called for donations and presented more than 30 million VND to each family to encourage them overcome the pandemic, loss and pain.

When there was a directive from the ward's administration on making a list of needy people receiving financial support, he went to each household, asked each person, made sure everyone in the list eligible for support.

Residents in this area also give praise to Nguyen Thi Lan, who is Dy's wife and has assisted him during this difficult time. She used to work as a military medical worker. After retirement, Lan has worked as a nurse, an administrator of this neighborhood, and also a population worker. During stressful Covid-19 days, Lan rushed to each isolation area to coordinate with the ward's health station to bring F0s to isolation and treatment facilities, even though she has underlying diseases. “My wife and I also want to rest, but for the sake of our community, we keep encouraging each other to try more and more,” said Dy.
