Hallmark of summer youth volunteer campaign

In the period of 2012-2017, youths in Binh Duong province were very successful in realizing a movement of “Volunteering in national defence and construction”, in which there were typical programs in association with the local tasks on socio-economic development.

Upholding their volunteer role, youths in the province over the past year effectively many significant programs, namely “youth month”, “summer youth volunteer campaign”, “spring youth volunteer campaign”, with such activities as “Sunflower” project, “Young physicians following Uncle Ho’s teachings-volunteering for community’s health” festival, “Tet of love and spring of sentimental attachment” festival …Among them, the summer youth volunteer campaign was still most highlighted.

 The summer youth volunteer campaign took place with such practical activities as “giving strength to examination season”, “green summer”, “red flamboyant”, “pink vacation”, “green operation”…Youth volunteer activities were implemented in association with political tasks in each locality and unit, especially in building new rural and civilized urban areas. The local youths also offered help to many other localities. Students of Binh Duong University and TDM University came to Dong Thap, Tay Ninh province and supported locals in socio-economic development by practical deeds such as upgrading rural roads, building bridges, awarding scholarships to pupils with difficult circumstances…

One of highlights of the provincial summer youth summer campaign over the past time was a green summer program in Phu Quy island district in the central province of Binh Thuan. Accordingly, since 2014, many volunteer activities, including visiting and presenting gifts to policy beneficiary families, and people with difficult circumstances; opening summer classes; awarding scholarships, gifts to pupils…, have been realized in the island district.

In addition, the local youths successfully organized international volunteer campaigns in Laos’Champasak province, Cambodia’s Kampongthom and Siemriep provinces. They were also very successful with programs, namely “I love Binh Duong”, “Connecting young workers”, “Military semester”…over the past 5 years.

Nguyen Pham Duy Trang, Secretary of provincial Youth Union said that the local youth volunteer campaigns in the last tenure reached robust development, absorbing the attention of the whole society. Noticeably, they were line with society’s demand and youths’ capacity. They was organized closely and logically, mobilizing the participation of volunteer forces, upholding social resources, taking full advantage of youths’ specialist knowledge and ardour…

Over the past five years, provincial Youth Unions at all levels set up 230 on-site volunteer squads; provided free medical check-ups and medicine for 18,750 poor people with a total expense of more than VND5billion; offered 350 bus tickets, 15,000 gifts and support packages worth nearly VND4billion to needy people; provided nearly 1,500 accommodations, 25,000 meals and 80,000 bottles of drink water free of charge…for candidates of national high school graduation exams, university/college entrance exams and their relatives…The local youths also got involved in planting 10,000 green trees, dredging in-field canals, upgrading and constructing 50 kilometers of rural roads; presented nearly 1,000 gifts, built and upgraded 45 gratitude and charity houses worth nearly VND800million; gave legal support for approximately 10,000 people; realized 35 “lighting rural road” works…
