The mosaic mural came from an idea by Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy, a journalist and painter who works for the Hanoimoi newspaper. She was then given full support by the city authorities.
The work of art was made from 2007-2010, involving 20 Vietnamese and 15 foreign artists, and 500 children from across the country and around the world plus 100 artists from traditional ceramic villages, including Phu Lang, Bat Trang, Chu Dau and Binh Duong.
At the ceremony, the Guinness Book of World Records Representative, Beatriz Fernandez, presented the certificate and confirmed that the similar record, held by China, covers 1,494.4 m2, has been broken.
Now, with its one section alone from An Duong Terminal to Tan Ap Terminal on Yen Phu Street, covering 1,570,2m2, the Hanoi mural has set a new Guinness World Record.
