Happy Tet with the poor

Taking care of disadvantaged people on Tet is an activity with profound humanistic meaning when spring comes. At this time, along with many localities in the province, the authorities and people of Hiep An ward in Thu Dau Mot city have focused on mobilizing all resources to take care of policy beneficiaries and poor people on Tet so that people can enjoy a happy and warm Tet.

From a meaningful contest

In order to uphold the tradition of solidarity and mutual affection of organizations, individuals and donors with love to help people with extremely difficult circumstances to rise up in life, contributing to ensuring the local social welfare and socio-economic development, the People's Committee of Hiep An ward has just held a contest "Overcoming challenges".

Leaders of Hiep An ward’s People's Committee and donors give Tet gifts for poor households

The contest was only for cases with extremely difficult circumstances in the ward. Accordingly, Youth Union members, civil servants and people of Hiep An ward were divided into teams, with 2 members each. They participated in such games as smashing piggy banks, shoveling soil into pots, sowing seeds in pots…Participating teams won 14 gifts worth VND 2.4 million each and gave them for the local poor households. The contest attracted a large number of the local people, showing profound humanity, thereby conveying the message of kindness, sharing, understanding and determination to act so that "no one is left behind" during the journey of building up a civilized, modern and sentimental Hiep An ward. Although being not of great value, these gifts were the hearts of officials and people in the ward, contributing to encouraging and helping people with difficult circumstances have a warm and happy Tet.

With a gift in hand, Huynh Tan Trung in quarter 3 said with emotion: “I am very happy to participate in the contest and very touched to see everyone trying to complete the task of helping us have the most significant and complete Tet gifts. With the attention of the local government and donors, we feel secure to celebrate Tet and try to stabilize our lives."

Nguyen Thi Ngoc Ngu, Vice-Chairman of Hiep An ward’s People's Committee said that from now until the Tet (Lunar New Year) festival 2023, the main activity of Hiep An ward is to gather resources and mobilize organizations and individuals to participate in taking care of the local disadvantaged people on Tet. "Joining hands for the poor - leaving no one behind" is not only a slogan, but also a concrete and practical action. “We need to put ourselves in the situation of disadvantaged people in order to offer help to them by our heart's feelings, with our understanding, respect and deep sympathy,” said Mrs. Ngu.

Efforts to take care of the poor

Currently, Hiep An ward has 82 poor households, 44 near-poor ones and more than 600 difficult cases. Last year, despite having difficulties, Hiep An ward ensured social welfare and improved the lives of the local disadvantaged people. With the support of donors, in 2022, Hiep An ward built 2 “great unity” houses worth VND 200 million; upgraded a “red cross” house worth VND 50 million; offered more than 3,500 gifts, bicycles, scholarships, … with a total value of more than VND 1.8 billion.

With the motto of "no one is left behind", the People's Committee of Hiep An ward has actively set up a plan, made a list of poor households, and near-poor ones to have timely support policies, ensuring 100% of poor households with Tet gifts. On the occasion of the Tet festival 2023, the ward’s People's Committee has called and mobilized donors to give more than 1,400 gifts with a total amount of more than VND 610 million and upgraded a house for a near-poor household with the amount of VND 15 million from the local Fund for the Poor. In addition, Hiep An ward has organized a series of activities on culture and sports, social welfare care for the local households with extremely difficult circumstances. Accordingly, many significant activities has taken place with such contents as peddling wares to raise funds for the poor; organizing contests and folk games for people; organizing “zero dong” fairs…

“In the coming time, we hope that organizations, individuals and businesses in and out of the ward will further accompany, join hands, have practical activities, making more contributions to reducing poverty and ensuring the local social welfare. It is hoped that everyone's efforts will be the motivation for poor and near-poor households to further uphold their will and aspiration to get out of poverty sustainably", Mrs. Ngu emphasized.
