HCM City likely to see recovery over next five months

Update: 08-05-2020 | 17:16:12

Ho Chi Minh City will strive to restore production and business activities during the next five months as the southern city works to make thorough preparations ahead of the 13th National Party Congress.

Overview of the teleconference

Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan was speaking during a teleconference with municipal leaders on May 8.

Nhan emphasized that the city will first move to restore production and service industries in an effort to meet the needs of local residents, while the tourism service industry will soon reopen based on the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) containment efforts implemented by other countries globally.

In the current context of the nation going several weeks with no domestically-transmitted COVID-19 cases, the city will be able to restore production activities relating to consumer goods factories in the second quarter of the year, while a roadmap for exports will be discussed in detail with each nation.

He noted that Ho Chi Minh City has adopted an aid package in support of local businesses affected by the COVID-19 epidemic, adding that the Government's support package is of critical importance.

In line with this package, the city leader proposed that the Government allocate 20% of the support package to Ho Chi Minh City in a bid to show their proactive support for businesses based in the southern city.
