Hi-tech agriculture – a proper developing trend

Binh Duong province’s agricultural industry has had a gigantic development thanks to a strong spreading of the provincial party committee’s Program 26. Therefore, local farmers have enjoyed opportunities of making wealth from their land lots and gardens.

After the provincial party committee’s Program 26 on “transferring agriculture structure to urban and hi-tech agriculture development in attachment to processing agriculture in the period of 2011-2015”, the provincial People’s Committee has also set out Plan No.765 dated March 26, 2012 to expedite this program.

Thanks to the two important documents, the work on transferring agricultural structure to urban and hi-tech applied agriculture has been widely developed, creating a special spreading among local people.

Until now, cultivation area of new technology application has accounted for 375.2ha. This area is from 92 units and individuals and includes high valued plants such as vegetable, mushroom, orchard, herbal plant, orchid, ornamental flower. In terms of animal husbandry, many households have used automatic facilities and so on. As many as 83 farmsteads and companies have thus far invested in breeding chickens, accounting for 63% of total poultry herd in the province. In addition, there are 41 pig farms and 2 companies raising hogs and pigs for meat with the total herd of 117,000 pigs, amounting to 25% of pig herd in the whole of the province.

Especially, hi-tech agricultural areas have put into operation and gradually improved shortcomings and develop their scope. Binh Duong is home to An Thai hi-tech agriculture area – a typical hi-tech agriculture model in the whole of the country. In addition, there are numerous other exemplary models such as air-conditioned chicken coops of Ba Huan Co. and Chi Hung Co. in Tan Uyen district, large-scaled pig and chicken farms of ADECO Company in Tan Uyen district and many more.

Overall, after 2 years of launching the Program 26, thousands of Binh Duong farmers have enjoyed production assistance worth up to VND1.4bil and loans worth VND8.8bil. In addition, to renovate nurslings, the provincial department of Agriculture and Rural Development has initiated 158 models of agriculture and fishery promotion for local farmers.

Up to now, the total area of hi-tech applied agriculture in the province has increased 372.5ha with numerous kinds of valued plants.

Only after 2 years of launching the Program 26, the provincial agricultural image has indicated a significant change. Since 2012, agriculture production value has continued increasing stably with an average rise of 4% per year. The local agricultural density has accounted for only 3.8% of economic structure but it has reaped a turnover of more than VND3,000bil per year. Notably, thanks to applying advanced measures and promoting well experiences, the average production value in the province has gained VND90mil per ha.

Moreover, perennial trees and animal husbandry are local advantages of agricultural industry. Binh Duong has thus far developed 139,000ha of perennial trees. Most of them are rubber trees with the capacity of 194,000 tons of latex per year.

Meanwhile, Binh Duong has reached as many as 496,000 cattle and 398ha of aquaculture area. Prominently, after 2 years of encouraging development of hi-tech agriculture, Binh Duong has rose 58% of poultry herds, up to 5.4 million poultries.

Tran Van Nam, vice chairman of the provincial People’s Committee said “From a locality with small and separate animal husbandry sector, Binh Duong has produced more than half of million of eggs and hundreds of thousands of poultries per day for the market. The agricultural production value has increased 29% after 2 years of implementing the Program 26, reaching VND90mil per ha. This is a joyful signal, showing a strong spreading of proper policy set out the provincial party committee”.
