Hi-yield field project: Effectiveness of the will of Party and heart of the people

Update: 02-06-2011 | 00:00:00

After implementing the province’s hi-yield field project, farmers in Tan Uyen district’s Hieu Liem have learnt to get rich by many effective models

 Outstanding farmers

Ba Tham is now well-known as a farmer pioneering the movement of building the hi-yield field in Tan Uyen district’s Hieu Liem commune.

Ba Tham and his orangery laden with fruits

After South Viet Nam liberation in 1975, Ba Tham left his homeland Dong Thap for southern Binh Duong province. Thanks to his diligence, Ba Tham overcome difficulties to become the owner of a famous fruit orchard in Tan Uyen district’s Hieu Liem commune.

Tangerine and thick-skinned orange are now two main fruit varieties in Ba Tham’s fruit orchard with more than 65ha. He said that he bravely leased land and applied sci-tech advancements in developing his fruit orchard, bringing hi-economic value. He could secure the annual profit of VND400mln from this hi-yield fruit orchard.

Similarly, Sau Xe has successfully built the green-skinned pomelo trademark, which is renown nationwide. His family now owns a 7ha-pomelo garden, which is grown and tended under the Vietnamese Good Agricultural Practices (VietGap) process with the annual revenue amounting to more than VND3bln.

In addition to Ba Tham and Sau Xe, many other local farmers getting involved in the hi-yield field project are also making efforts to build the Hieu Liem fruit trademark.

 High economic efficiency

Since 2006, provincial People’s Committee and five farmer households at Chanh Hung hamlet, Hieu Liem commune, Tan Uyen district have jointly implemented the 42-ha hi-yield field project, which is specialized in growing tangerine, thick-skinned orange and green-skinned pomelo. These farmer households have also received more support from the local authorities and mass organizations to foster this project.

The profit from the project has so far been more than VND200mln per ha, 4 times higher than the initial estimation. This considerable result has come from the integral efforts of the local authorities and farmers. The project has also generated jobs for the local laborers with the average income of more than VND2mln per capita per month.

With the above hi-economic efficiency, it is seen as the effective agricultural production model for farmers in and out of the province to study and replicate.

In the coming time, Hieu Liem commune will expand this project to more than 200 ha. This project not only increases income and generate jobs for the local farmers, but also help them have a new view in agricultural production, especially build the Hieu Liem fruit trademark.

Possibly speaking, this project has brought hi-economic efficiency, as a result of the consensus between the local government and people…
